With the summer season approaching, there are many wonderful new activities and projects going on in our community park.
Basketball court – The basketball court is finally finished, the hoops are expected to be installed this month. The court is currently being used by deck hockey and pickleball groups. The road completes the access to this new multipurpose court and also facilitates closer parking for our softball fields.
Camp Splash – Camp Splash is a 7-week day camp at Canonsburg Town Park. It provides children with activities that promote physical activity and friendship and features three hours of swimming each day, weather permitting. Camp Splash has one counselor for every eight children. A hot lunch and snacks are provided every day. Camp Splash will start the week of June 19 and end Friday, Aug. 4.

Bathhouse – Current projects underway include rehabbing the bathhouse with all new LED lighting throughout, as well as new skid proof, commercial-grade flooring. The center room (which used to be the entrance back in the day) will be included in this refurbishing project and will be available to host small indoor parties should the weather become inclement.
Pool passes – The pool will again open on Memorial Day weekend (May 27). Daily admission will remain at $6 per admission; however passes have been increased. Prices have not been raised in many years, and while this is a small increase, please know that we are always concerned about keeping this facility affordable to families and residents. Check us out on Facebook under Canonsburg Borough for the link to purchase passes in advance. We will again be offering swim lessons. Check at the pool registration desk for details and dates.
Concerts in the Park – Concerts in the Park 2017 will be another great season for Music in the Park series. Great sounds from various musical acts will fill the park with excitement from all types of music. New this year, in addition to the Second Sunday concerts on the Main stage and poolside bands on Wednesday evenings, will be new local solo or duo acts under the colonnades on Sunday afternoons. Many new start-up acts need some exposure and this will be a great talent producing time slot. Parents, grandparents and visitors will have a great chance to see Canonsburg’s newest talent for the first time. Schedules with selected bands will be announced as soon as bookings are finalized. If you have a desire to perform in the park or need additional information, call 724-745-7968.
Parade appearance – Town Park will have a float in the Fourth of July Parade promoting this event and Texas Road House will have their Armadillo on board – check us out! Afterward, please visit the pool and park as it is sure to be a blowout event. If you would like to help with the building of the float, please contact the park board.
Dining around the Pool – Dining around the Pool is scheduled for Sept. 9. Texas Roadhouse has once again graciously agreed to provide us with a fabulous prime rib dinner. Entertainment, appetizers and desert will be included, along with a fabulous Chinese auction. To volunteer or donate to this community event, please contact Terri at firstname.lastname@example.org. This event will be cut off at 200 people due to space constraints, so please make your reservations on line once the pool opens and look for the flyers around town.
More projects – Canonsburg Town Park is in desperate need of infrastructure/facility improvements. Some of the main projects that have become a priority are the pathways throughout the park. They all need to be pulled up and replaced, and this is quite an expensive and time consuming undertaking. We have several pavilions that need rebuilt/rehabbed, walkways, bridges all are in need of some TLC. We are trying to revitalize all of our water fountains and playgrounds throughout the park. Our volunteer board is applying for local casino grants and we need your help. Please tell the local officials about this park and how important it is to the community. With limited resources, and a diminishing tax base, this is our only option.
Park Bench project – Look for our Park Bench project to start in May. These benches will be placed throughout the park to enhance the area as most of the existing benches are in need of replacement. We would also like to add more benches throughout the park, so if you have a loved one you would like to remember, a company you would like to sponsor one or a reunion commemorative, please contact us.
Ash tree replacement – Most of the ash trees have been removed throughout the park due to the disease that afflicted them last year in our area. We look forward to replanting another varietal that is indigenous to the area over the next few years. It would be a great opportunity for someone with a background in forestry or other related field to give us input on our terrain. Please contact us if you are able to help in this project.
