The spotlight was on several Southpointe companies that were recognized for their corporate support and the generosity of their employees during United Way of Washington County’s Annual Campaign Celebration and Awards luncheon held recently at Bella Sera. The luncheon recognizes companies and individuals for their generosity and volunteer accomplishments. Both large corporations and small offices were recognized for workplace campaigns, special events and volunteer projects throughout the year. The 2016-17 Annual Campaign raised $1,184,913. The continued financial support of these Southpointe companies and their employees make it possible for United Way to fund the programs and services that address community needs in education, financial stability and healthy lifestyles in Washington County.

The Chairman’s Awards, recognizing the top workplace Campaigns, were presented to the five companies that raised the most money in Washington County. In first place, with an impressive total of $155,431, was Range Resources, thanks to the generosity of their employees, the corporation and some very successful special events. Columbia Gas of PA came in at second place with $154,363 raised by their employees, their highest total since moving to Washington County a little over a decade ago. Mylan rounded out the top five, with their employees raising $36,661. Additional Southpointe businesses that supported United Way with employee and corporate contributions were AccuTrex Products, Noble Energy, Williams, EQT, PNC Financial Services, Bowles Rice LLP, State Farm Insurance, CDMG, VITAC, Weld Tooling/BUG-O Systems, AYCO, WesBanco, Buchannan, Ingersol & Rooney PC, Norton, Rose Fulbright, LLP, Steptoe & Johnson, Community Bank, Halliburton, UBS Stonegate Wealth Management, Lumos Networks, Hefren-Tillotson, and California University of Pennsylvania.

These businesses represent Washington County at its best. The Campaign committees at each company spent countless hours planning and conducting a golf outing, two clay shoots, cooking competitions, sporting events, breakfasts, lunches, desserts, “jeans days” and sports team rallies all to raise an exceptional amount of money for United Way’s Community Impact initiatives. Many of these companies arranged for dozens of employees to serve as volunteers on United Way’s Community Impact panels in April 2017. These volunteers reviewed applications and visited close to 40 local charities that applied for United Way funding, resulting in the awarding of $351,000 in Community Impact Grants to support the local programs and services offering assistance to people in need throughout Washington County.
