Big first quarter sparks Bentworth

HOUSTON – Shawn Dziak passed for three touchdowns and ran for another score Friday night to lead Bentworth to its second win in a row, 54-6 over host Chartiers-Houston in a Class AA Century Conference game.

Bentworth (2-0, 2-1) forged a 26-0 lead in the first quarter. Dziak ran seven yards for the game’s first touchdown and passed 18 yards to Seth Mitchell to make it 14-0. Marshall Walters intercepted a C-H pass and returned it eight yards for a score, and Spencer Fereza added a 19-yard TD run to make it 26-0. Fereza led Bentworth with 92 yards on 10 carries.

Matt Whitfield ran 11 yards for C-H’s only score, cutting the gap to 26-6 late in the first quarter.

Dziak, who was 11 of 15 for 147 yards, threw second-half TD passes of 20 yards to Ben Peternel and eight yards to Mitchell. Shawn Bakos also had a 16-yard scoring run.

C-H fell to 0-1, 0-3.
