Washington Co. & Mon Valley Police Beat : Police Beat Oct. 6

Theft charge: Joseph Melvin Jankowski Jr., 26, of 2200 Henderson Ave., Washington, was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Curtis Thompson on charges of access device fraud, theft and receiving stolen property for allegedly using a Buffalo Township man’s debit card to withdraw $1,928 last month. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bond.


Warrant arrest: William Yarbrough, 47, of 312 N. Central Ave., Canonsburg, was taken into custody Wednesday on a warrant during a traffic stop by Canonsburg police at the intersection of Ashland Avenue and East Pike Street. He was placed in Washington County jail.


Drug arrest: Robert Benton Doty, 31, of 201 Lacock St., Canton, was charged this week by state police with possession of heroin and paraphernalia and false identification stemming from a Sept. 5 traffic stop at the intersection of Wayne Street and Hayes Avenue in Canton. The charges were sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.


Drug charges: Eugene Davis, 46, of 580 Thompson Ave., was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Larry Hopkins on charges of possession and possession with intent to deliver crack, possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct after Charleroi Regional police said they found him unconscious in a vehicle in the 900 block of Shady Avenue. Police said they found a small amount of marijuana in his pocket and a plastic bag under the driver’s seat that contained suspected crack. There also was a suspected crack pipe, a digital scale with a powder residue and $191, police said. Davis was placed in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond. He faces an Oct. 19 hearing before Hopkins.


Man assaulted: Albert Rasel, 80, of South Strabane Township, was taken to Washington Hospital after he was reportedly punched in the face by another man in the bar at American Legion Post 175 on Park Avenue Wednesday night. Rasel told Washington police he was sitting at the bar when a 36-year-old man came in and, unprovoked, punched him in the face, knocking him to the floor. He said he briefly lost consciousness. His attacker then left. Police were not contacted until Rasel called from the hospital. Police plan to review surveillance tape. Charges are pending.

Harassment charge: Lester Cole, 52, of 859 Broad St., Washington, will be charged by Washington police with harassment after he allegedly struck Monica Hoberek, 36, who police said is homeless, in the 500 block of Meadow Avenue early Thursday. Hoberek was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of a head laceration.

Disorderly charge: Jesse B. King, 47, of Sioux Falls, S.D., will be charged by Washington police with disorderly conduct after he allegedly threatened two woman at GetGo, East Wylie Avenue, early Thursday when they reportedly refused to give him a ride to a grocery store.

Retail theft: City police charged Nathaniel Engott, 35, of Collin Avenue with retail theft. Engott allegedly took a basket of flowers from outside of Shop ‘n Save, 100 W. Beau St., walked into the store foyer and then walked back out of the store without paying for them on July 18. He was charged Wednesday by summons from District Judge Robert Redlinger’s office.

Woman charged: Amanda L. Kempf, 32, of Third Avenue was charged with retail theft in connection with an incident Sept. 24. Kempf allegedly attempted to steal items worth $27.47 from the store by putting them in her purse. City police filed the charge by summons Wednesday from District Judge Robert Redlinger’s office.


Harassment: Two women face charges after they allegedly got into a fight Sept. 29 at a home at 183 Sunset Drive, state police said. Barbara Painter, 26, of 43 Lowden Lane, Amity, and Brenda Messinger, 46, of 183 Sunset, were charged with harassment. The charges will proceed by summons from the office of District Judge Curtis Thompson.
