Canon-Mac teacher a ‘Leader in the Classroom’
Representatives from Chevron surprised Canon-McMillan High School technology education teacher Sandy Cavanaugh as a winner of the “Leaders in the Classroom” program. The program, a partnership between Chevron and the Pittsburgh Steelers, honors 16 outstanding regional teachers for their innovative approach to learning and STEM education. Cavanaugh, pictured center and surrounded by her students, was nominated by the high school principal for developing hands-on curriculum that challenges students to creatively solve real-world problems. As a Leader in the Classroom, Cavanaugh received a $1,000 grant to support her innovative approach to learning as well as tickets to the December Steelers vs. Patriots game, where she will join the other 15 winners for an on-field recognition ceremony.
