    Ryan N. Bassi of Washington has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. Bassi, a 2007-08 cadet at Valley Forge Military College, has completed his preparatory year through the U.S. Naval Academy Scholarship Foundation program with honors. He is a varsity letterman in cross country and designated squad leader. Bassi recently was awarded the McClosky Award for the most disciplined cadet of I Company. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil D. Bassi of Washington and a 2007 honors graduate of Trinity High School.

    Class Timothy R. Neligh has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Neligh is a 2002 graduate of Carmichaels Area High School. His father is Timothy Neligh of Rices Landing.

    ROTC Cadet Andrew Nicholson was named this year's George C. Marshall Award recipient from Shippensburg University's ROTC program. The award is given to the senior cadet who most exemplifies the qualities of a scholar, athlete and leader. Nicholson will be honored in April at a conference on the campus of the Virginia Military Institute. He will begin training June 8 at Fort Sill, Okla., before reporting to Fort Huachuca, Ariz., on Aug. 4 for Army Intelligence School. He will then begin a one-year assignment to Seoul, South Korea. Nicholson was named to the dean's list at the university for all eight semesters and will graduate and be commissioned into the U.S. Army on May 10. His parents are Phil and Karen Nicholson of McMurray.
