C-M teachers: No new contract
CANONSBURG - Canon-McMillan teachers overwhelmingly rejected a fact-finder's proposal for a new contract late Thursday night. Joe Grosso, the union's lead negotiator, said 91 percent voted against the proposal, citing concerns about class size, involuntary transfers and the salary schedule.

Attorneys: Sentences contained 'errors'
Claims were made Friday that Washington County President Judge Debbie O'Dell Seneca erred not only in the resentencing of one of the men involved in killing a Carroll Township couple last year, but also in the sentence she gave to the man who pulled the trigger. Motions for reconsideration of sentences were filed for Gerald L. Szakal of Webster, who was convicted of killing Howard and Nancy Springer in March 2008, and the co-conspirator in the crime, Justin Welch of Charleroi.

Five hurt in crash
Five people were seriously injured when the vehicle in which they were riding became airborne and crashed into the side of the former Coca-Cola plant on West Maiden Street at Jefferson Avenue in Washington about 2:30 a.m. Friday. City police said the driver of the sport utility vehicle, Jean-Henri Yandell, 31, of 430 Addison St., Washington, was driving east on Jefferson onto West Maiden and apparently went around the curve too quickly.

Monessen woman among soldiers injured
A Monessen woman is among the 30 soldiers injured in the deadly shooting rampage Thursday at Fort Hood, Texas. Brandy Mason, a 1995 graduate of Monessen High School, is expected to make a full recovery after being shot in the upper thigh during the massacre that left 13 people dead, the high school principal confirmed Friday.
