Lawn mower stolen: Mark Vida of Canonsburg told Canonsburg police Wednesday that a lawn mower he had at rental property at 114 S. Jefferson Ave. was stolen.
CANTON TOWNSHIP
Warrant arrest: Dennis Richard Haugh, 35, whose last known address was McKee Road, Canton, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant obtained by state police stemming from a Feb. 7 incident on Race Street, Canton.
Police said they were checking on a reported theft of scrap metal when they found Haugh driving a vehicle while intoxicated. The vehicle matched the description of the one used in the reported theft. Police said Haugh's blood-alcohol content was almost three times the 0.08 percent limit presumed for intoxication.
He was arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and having no inspection.
Vehicle hits pole: Mack Smith, 48, of Charleroi, and his passenger, Rick Francis, 56, of Washington, escaped injury when Smith's vehicle hit a utility pole on South Hewitt Avenue near West Wylie Avenue, Canton, Wednesday morning.
State police said Smith was distracted by his cell phone.
CECIL TOWNSHIP
Woman assaulted: John Eichmuller, 39, was charged Wednesday with simple assault after being accused of striking his girlfriend, Lisa Heinnickel of Pittsburgh, while she was driving on Interstate 79 near Southpointe about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, state police said. Eichmoller was released after posting $5,000 bond set by District Judge Josh Kanalis.
CHARTIERS TOWNSHIP
Windshield broken: Ralph Scarcell of 48 Hart St., Houston, told Chartiers police Wednesday that a large rock was thrown at his vehicle on Route 519 near Washington Steel, breaking the windshield.
CROSS CREEK TOWNSHIP
Pupil charged: A 12-year-old Avella Elementary School pupil was charged Thursday with theft by unlawful taking after allegedly stealing a digital camera from a desk in March.
Police said the student stole the camera out of the desk of Lynette D. Zimmerman of Washington, between 8 a.m. March 17 and 3 p.m. March 19.
The theft charge was filed through the county's juvenile probation office.
HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP
Theft, damage reported: State police said someone cut the locks off a Bill Hawk Inc. construction trailer on Farrar School Road, stealing a generator and damaging an off-road vehicle betwen April 11 and April 14.
Police said the thief took a joyride through the woods in the vehicle. The person then left the vehicle and fled with the generator.
ROBINSON TOWNSHIP
Gravel spilled: State police are looking for the driver of a dump truck that lost about three tons of gravel on Interstate 79 north near the Carnegie exit, Robinson, Allegheny County, about 7:15 a.m. Thursday.
The truck left the highway at Kirwan Heights and went to a job site at Kane Hospital on Vanadium Road without stopping. Several vehicles were damaged, and the state Department of Transportation had to remove the gravel.
Anyone who has a description of the truck or was in the area at the time is asked to call state police in Pittsburgh at 412-787-2000.
WASHINGTON
Harassment charge: Preston Klages, 23, of 739 Taylorstown Ridge Road, Avella, was charged Tuesday by Washington police with criminal mischief and harassment after allegedly punching and slapping his sister, Christina Gatten, during a confrontation at her home at 808 Fayette St. He also is accused of breaking her telephone and damaging the screen door.
Copper stolen: Washington police said a door at 937 Jefferson Ave. was kicked in Tuesday. Copper pipe was stolen. It was unknown who owns the building.
Drug charges: Lora Shriver, 30, of 1142 E. High St., Waynesburg, faces charges of possession of crack and drug paraphernalia after Washington police stopped her as she walked in the 200 block of Locust Avenue Tuesday.
Purse stolen: Brandi Hoffaker of 12961/2 Spencer Ave., Washington, told Washington police Tuesday that her vehicle was entered while it was parked in the 900 block of Chartiers St. Her purse containing $500, three checkbooks, jewelry and credit cards was stolen.
DUI charge: Josh Confort, 18, of 147 North Ave., Washington, faces charges including driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop early Wednesday on Allison Avenue at Maple Avenue.
Washington police were flagged down by a motorist who said they had almost been run off the road. Police said they stopped Confort after he went through a stop sign. They reportedly found an open 40-ounce bottle of malt liquor and an unopened can of beer in the car.
Police said his BAC was more than eight times the 0.02 percent limit for those under the age of 21.
Trespass charge: David Bennington, 68, of 2329 Cornelia St., Washington, was charged by Washington police with defiant trespass after he was at Shop 'n Save Wednesday. He had been banned from the store, police said.
WEST FINLEY TOWNSHIP
Gas stolen: State police said 25 gallons of gasoline was stolen Wednesday from a storage shed at Hansen Engineering, 167 Laidleys Run Road, West Finley.
