Q. Is there such a thing as "quiet hour" in the city of Washington? If so, when is it? 6/25/09
A. I've never heard of a "quiet hour." There is an ordinance called "Excessive Noise Unlawful" that states it's unlawful for any person to make, continue or cause to be made excessive, unnecessary or unusually loud noise or any noise that either annoys, disturbs, injures or endangers the comfort, repose, health, peace or safety of others: Ordinance 1356 (602).

CANONSBURG

Purse stolen: Denise Calabro of Chartiers Township told Canonsburg police Wednesday that her purse containing a Rolex watch, a diamond ring, other jewelry, a cellular telephone and a checkbook was stolen from her car while it was parked in front of 146 W. Pike St.

CHARTIERS TOWNSHIP

Driver injured: Rose Warco, 84, of Stonemarker Drive, South Strabane Township, was injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Pike Street near Country Club Road, Chartiers police said.

Warco was driving south on Pike when her vehicle crossed the center line, striking a vehicle driven by Robert Grumski, 42, of Sewickley. Warco was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of a mouth injury.

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP

Harassment charge: Betty Cross of Washington will be charged with harassment by state police after allegedly punching Daryl Cross in the mouth during a confrontation Tuesday at 15 Amos Lane, Hopewell, police said.

NORTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP

Windshield broken: Vandals broke the windshield of a pickup truck owned by Cast and Baker of North Strabane while it was parked Wednesday in the lot at The Meadows Casino, North Strabane police said. The company is doing construction work there.

Flag stolen: Lisa Ackerman of 459 Hunting Creek Road told North Strabane police Thursday that a U.S. flag was stolen from outside her home.

PETERS TOWNSHIP

Purse stolen: A McMurray resident left her purse under a seat in her unlocked vehicle in the parking lot of the Arrowhead Trail and, when she returned, the purse was missing, township police said.

The incident was reported at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday and occurred in the parking lot at Valley Brook and Bebout roads. The purse contained about $25, credit cards and other contents, police said.

Drug charges: William Hickman, 32, will be charged by summons following a traffic stop at 2:07 a.m. Thursday on Hidden Valley Road, township police said.

Hickman, of Hidden Valley Road, was stopped and attempting to enter a house when police learned he was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Allegheny County.

Found in his car were a crack pipe and suspected crack, police said. Hickman was taken by Allegheny County sheriff's deputies to the Allegheny County Jail. He will be charged with driving under suspension DUI-related, and with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

WASHINGTON

Gun shown: John Holmes of Addison Street, Washington, told Washington police that a gun was pulled on him as he walked in the 300 block of West Chestnut Street about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday.

A tan, four-door Ford Taurus carrying four black men in their late teens passed him. The car circled around the block and pulled up next to Holmes. He said a front-seat passenger pointed a silver gun at him and said "Now what are you going to do?" before the car drove off.

Phone stolen: Deanna Terrell of Elm Street, Canonsburg, told Washington police Wednesday that her cellular telephone was stolen from the counter at the Shop 'n Save food court. Surveillance video showed a heavyset black man wearing a powder blue shirt with the number "72" on it put the phone is his pocket.

Vehicle shot: A GMC Sonoma owned by the city of Washington was shot with a BB gun while parked in the parking garage on East Chestnut Street Wednesday, Washington police said.

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP

Simple assault: Larry Lee Black, 46, of Waynesburg, was arrested after he allegedly became involved in a fight with Terry Lynn Black, 43, at 11:15 p.m. Monday at a house on Washington Road, state police said. Charges of simple assault and harassment were filed against Larry Lee Black with District Judge Glenn Bates, police said.

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP

Hit-and-run: Marcus King, 25, of Jefferson, was arrested following a hit-and-run crash at 1:55 a.m. Wednesday in a driveway off Pine Street, state police said. Police said King's vehicle entered the driveway and struck the rear end of a car owned by Nenamosha King. The impact forced the parked car into the car in front of it owned by Holly Dickey. Marcus King then backed up, running over the mailbox, police said. King was arrested at his home for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Charges are pending results of a blood-alcohol test.

WAYNESBURG BOROUGH

Window broken: The driver's door window was broken on a car parked behind a residence at 153 S. Morris St. between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday, Waynesburg police said.

Public drunkenness: Tara L. Hall, 27, of Waynesburg was cited for public drunkenness after being found highly intoxicated at the entrance to Central Park at 8 p.m. Sunday, Waynesburg police said. She was placed in the Greene County Jail on a probation violation.

WHITELEY TOWNSHIP

Four injuries: Four people were injured in a two-car crash at 8 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 79, state police said. Police said a car operated by Ebony Bullock, 28, of Oakmont, sideswiped a car driven by Michael Kitcho, 34, of Tonawanda, N.Y. Both vehicles spun and flipped over. Both drivers suffered minor injuries. A passenger in Kitcho's car, John Brown, 40, of Ransomville, N.Y., also suffered minor injuries; another passenger, Matthew Kitcho, 9, of Tonawanda suffered moderate injuries, police said. The injured were taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., for treatment.
