What is NiE?

The Observer-Reporter’s Newspaper in Education (NiE) program is an educational partnership with educators in Washington and Greene counties. We offer free newspaper delivery to schools every Tuesday, and reduced rate subscriptions for daily delivery (19 cents per newspaper). Educators who participate in NiE also receive FREE supplemental materials that accompany our student features.

Why use newspapers is the classroom?

Newspapers are a vital source for current local, regional and world news. Students who read the newspaper grow up to be well informed citizens and voters. Newspapers also offer exciting new ways for teachers to teach math, reading and character education. Newspapers are not “just one more thing” to add to your curriculum, but a tool that will help you achieve your goals. The Observer-Reporter offers FREE curriculum guides that show you how to use our newspaper to meet federal standards in a variety of subjects.

How is NiE Funded?

The Observer-Reporter would like to thank our subscribers who support the NiE program. All donations are placed in a special fund, and 100% of your gift is used to send newspapers to local schools on Tuesdays. More than 100,000 newspapers are sent to local students every year!
