Waynesburg rallies past Westminster

A layup by Colby Grubich with 7:31 remaining in the game broke a 67-67 tie and helped Waynesburg defeat Westminster 88-82 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference contest at Marisa Fieldhouse.

Though Waynesburg (2-2, 5-7) led throughout most of the contest, Westminster (2-2, 2-12) took the lead midway through the second half. The Titans led by as much as four before the Yellow Jackets went on a 14-4 run to take the lead for good.

Senior guard Jason Clark scored a career-high 25 points for Waynesburg on 10 of 16 shooting. He also made five three-pointers.

Junior guard Ryan Courneen added 19 points, sophomore forward Jeff Young 13 and Dan Happe chipped in 12 in the victory.

The Titans were led by Ryne Murray's 17 points and game-high 15 rebounds. Bobby Glass had 19 points for Westminster and Max Spinner added 18. Rob Briggs also scored 13 in the loss.

Washington & Jefferson 77, Thiel 62: Josip Lucic-Jozak scored a game-high 30 points for the Presidents as Washington & Jefferson defeated Thiel 77-62 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at Greenville.

Wahab Owolabi was also outstanding on both ends of the floor for W&J. Owolabi scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, eight offensive.

Though the Presidents led by two at halftime, they shot almost 57 percent from the floor in the second half to distance themselves from the Tomcats. Washington & Jefferson was also 15 of 17 from the foul line in the game.

Cory Chaffee led Thiel with 14 points. Sean Devinney added 11 and Nick Sefscik 10 in the loss.

California 73, Lake Erie 64: California's 73-64 victory over Lake Erie snapped a three-game losing streak and got the Vulcans back to the .500 mark (5-5).

The Vulcans put on a second-half shooting display, converting nearly 60 percent of their field goal attempts to out-score Lake Erie (5-13) by nine after halftime.

Jerial Nixon had 19 points, Chris Moore scored 14, Joe Berenato added 11 and Kelsey Williams chipped in 10 points for California.

Ethan Bradshaw scored 19 points and Rick Leasure had 18 in the loss.

Women

Washington & Jefferson 82, Thiel 48: Veronica Kust led Washington & Jefferson with 13 points as the Presidents easily defeated Thiel, 82-48, in Greenville.

Emily Hays and Keenan Killeen each added 12 points for the Presidents (4-0, 11-1). Maggie Gibson added a team-high eight rebounds.

Washington & Jefferson used a 14-0 run in the first half to take a 13-point lead. The Presidents led 36-23 at halftime and used a 19-3 run to begin the second half to put the game out of reach.

The Presidents held the Tomcats (2-2, 6-4) to 31 percent shooting. W&J also outrebounded Thiel 40-33.

Westminster 58, Waynesburg 53: Westminster rallied from a 12-point deficit to defeat Waynesburg 58-53 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game.

Jeannette Wonsettler led Waynesburg with a season-high 16 points off the bench. Elisha Jones pitched in 15 points and eight rebounds for Waynesburg (2-2, 4-6).

The Titans were led by Amy Dolsak, who had 16 points and eight rebounds.

California 100, Lake Erie 33: Brooque Williams became California's 21st 1,000-point scorer after scoring 21 points in a 100-33 rout of Lake Erie.

Williams, who also had a game-high 12 rebounds along with five assists and five steals, now has 1,006 career points.

The No. 8 Vulcans (8-2) shot over 50 percent from the floor for the game. Kayla Smith scored 18 points, Rachel Riley had 13 and Shaquetta Mance chipped in 11 points.

California scored 50 points in each half and did not allow a double-digit scorer for Lake Erie (4-11).
