Betty Bernice Anderson, 81, of Washington, died Saturday, January 12, 2008, in Humbert Lane, South Strabane Township.

She was born April 27, 1926, in Washington, a daughter of Earl and Delphia Harris Smith.

Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.

She enjoyed her grandchildren and cooking.

On June 24, 1967, she married Alfred A. Anderson, who died November 5, 2004.

Surviving are a son, Larry (Sue) Lenhart of Washington; a daughter, Connie (Mike) Cain of Washington; seven grandchildren, Stacey, Sherri, Joseph, Michelle, Chris, Matt and Steve; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Deceased are two brothers, Ralph Smith and Earl Smith Jr.; and two sisters, Bertha Stimmell and Nancy Robinson.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, with the Rev. Fred McCloskey officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.

George J. Frank Sr., 99, of California, died Friday, January 11, 2008.

He was born Tuesday, November 24, 1908, in Elm Grove, W.Va., a son of John Frank Sr. and Mary Gabor Frank.

Mr. Frank was a retired miner from J&L Vesta 4 Mine. He was a member of St. Agnes Church in Richeyville.

Surviving are his four children, Violet Organiscak of Bentleyville, Lillian Cifone of Glendora, N.J., Robert Frank and wife Florence of Susquehanna and George Frank Jr. and wife Shirley of California. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased are his wife, Emma Zayak Frank, who died in 1989; two sisters, Helen Kiwacz and Mary Horbatuik; a brother, Andrew Frank; a grandson, Frank Organiscak Jr.; a granddaughter, Linda Lee Organiscak; and two great-granddaughters, Nicole and Natalie Rudy.

Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday in Mariscotti Funeral Home Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, and until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, where a blessing service will be held, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Agnes Church, Richeyville, with Father John Forbudussi as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, California.

JOSEPH JOHNS

Owner of Johns Auto Sales-Scenery Hill Auto Parts

Joseph Johns, 85, of Washington, formerly of Scenery Hill, died Friday, January 11, 2008, in Washington Hospital.

He was born December 18, 1922, in Washington, a son of Michael and Mary Oritelli Johns.

Mr. Johns attended Washington schools.

He worked in Frank Huffman's garage, where he operated the body shop before becoming self-employed by Johns Body Shop-Johns Auto Sales-Scenery Hill Auto Parts until his retirement in 1996.

Mr. Johns proudly served in the U.S. Army along with four of his brothers during World War II.

He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Scenery Hill. He served as constable for North Bethlehem Township.

Mr. Johns enjoyed golf, bowling in Tan-O-Bell Lanes and pitching for softball teams in Scenery Hill, Cokeburg and Glyde, as well as playing baseball for two years in Scenery Hill and Cokeburg.

On December 20, 1941, he married Wilma Opal Ross, who died December 28, 2005.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Jo (John) Vorraso of Orange Park, Fla.; a son, Michael James (Carol) Johns of Bentleyville; two brothers, Louis and Jake Johns, both of Washington; three grandchildren, Amy Jo Trusler, Jesse James Johns and Jenny Jean Johns; four great-grandchildren, Courtney, Macy, Kylie and Bre; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his wife, Wilma, are four brothers, "Boots," Tony, Nick and an infant brother, Antonio Johns, and three sisters, Ange Cipoletti-Camden, Rose Whetsell and an infant sister, Esther Johns.

Friends were received Saturday and will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 14, with the Rev. Peter Asplin officiating. Interment will follow in Scenery Hill Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded by Bentleyville American Legion Post 165.

AMELIA SALVATI KRANAK

Dedicated volunteer

enjoyed flea markets

Amelia Salvati Kranak, 87, of Burgettstown (Paris), died Friday, January 11, 2008, in Beaver Elder Care, Aliquippa.

She was born August 3, 1920, in Ambridge, a daughter of Julius and Mary Testa Salvati.

Mrs. Kranak grew up in Ambridge until she married her husband, John, and moved to Paris to start their life together. Mr. Kranak died March 17, 2007. They were married for 60 years.

She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Burgettstown.

Mrs. Kranak was a wonderful and caring lady and dedicated volunteer for many years, making crafts in Sheltered Workshop in Weirton, W.Va., and Weirton Geriatric Center.

She enjoyed going to flea markets and collecting bells.

Mrs. Kranak was a wonderful and kind wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She will be greatly missed by all who survive her.

Surviving are three sons, John F. Kranak, husband of Kathy of Aliquippa, James B. Kranak, husband of Carol of Dothan, Ala., and Joseph Kranak of Washington; four grandchildren, Johnna DeSalle, Erica Delgado, wife of Junior, Aimee Plake, wife of Branden and Melanie Kranak; five great-grandchildren, Sydney Miller, Logan and Braden Plake and Adrianna and Marah Delgado; three sisters, Dora Schwartz of Baden, Theresa (Vincent) Salvati of Bridgeport, Conn., and Gilda Popik of Stratford, Conn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Deceased, in addition to her husband, are two brothers, Gino and Ferdinand Salvati; and a sister, Hilda Barley.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Taucher Funeral Home, 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, January 14, in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Burgettstown, with the Rev. Robert Connolly, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

CYNTHIA JAYNE

ELIZABETH LEFTWICH

Former Washington resident, longtime bridge club member

Cynthia (Jayne) Elizabeth Leftwich, 89, died at 1:45 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2007, in Chestnut Hill Hospital, Philadelphia, following a lengthy illness.

Miss Leftwich, formerly of Washington, was living in Wyncote at the time of her death.

She was born January 25, 1918, in Washington, the oldest daughter of Claude Henry Leftwich and Celestine Ruffner Leftwich.

Miss Leftwich was a 1937 graduate of East Washington High School. Immediately following high school, she completed a catering training program at Nemacolin Country Club. During this time, she was a member of a traveling choral group.

She lived and worked in Columbus, Ohio, and Pittsburgh during the early 1940s. While living in Pittsburgh, she was featured in the Pittsburgh Courier newspaper as the winner of an annual beauty pageant sponsored by the Black Professional Association.

Miss Leftwich was employed for several years in the Washington County Courthouse and ran Ashley Club Hotel with her partner, Todd Proctor.

She was a spirited and fun-loving person who enjoyed many pursuits, including music, cooking, gardening and playing bridge and was an avid reader. She was a member of "Just Us" bridge and social club for nearly 50 years and was an active and lifelong member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.

Miss Leftwich will be fondly remembered for her devotion to her family and friends and how she lovingly cared for her niece and nephews.

Surviving are three sisters, Ruth Leftwich, Celestine Mooney and Josephine Spears; a brother, Claude H. (Clarice) Leftwich; a niece, Claudia Kim (Henry) Scott; a nephew, Claude Spears; a great-nephew, Kristopher Henry (Bonnie) Scott; and a great-niece, Leah Kristina Scott.

Services were held Saturday, January 5, in Wyncote, with interment in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to John Wesley United Methodist Church.

HARRY M. MALIK JR.

Findlay Refractory manager, Sports Hall of Fame inductee

Harry M. Malik Jr., 66, of Homosaffa, Fla., died Thursday, January 10, 2008, in his home, after a lengthy illness.

He was born February 2, 1941, in Washington, a son of Harry M. Sr. and Ida May Ansell Malik.

Mr. Malik worked for 25 years in Findlay Refractory as an operations manager.

An active member of Frazier Simplex Shooting Club, he was involved in various shooting activities, which resulted in his induction into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. He was involved in Scouting and was a longtime Scout leader.

On June 13, 1975, in Winchester, Va., he married Jan Hemelrick, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Richard (Karen) Malik of Wexford and Jeffrey (Tracee) Malik of Washington; and two daughters, Kristi (Bill) Fonner of Claysville and Angela (Tommy) Malik of Bethel, Ohio.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 16. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.

Rhonda Jay Nickolas, 51, of Monongahela, formerly of Van Voorhis, died unexpectedly Saturday, January 12, 2008, in Golden Living Center, Canonsburg.

She was born September 10, 1956, in Monongahela, a daughter of the late John and Elida (Eve) Cucchiorini Nickolas.

Miss Nickolas was Catholic and participated in Special Olympics, where she was awarded medals in several events.

She enjoyed word puzzles, playing softball and collecting baseball cards.

She undoubtedly touched the lives of everyone who was lucky enough to have met her, and she will be sadly missed by all.

Surviving are a brother, John G. Nickolas of Bentleyville; two sisters, Kathy Collins of Monongahela and Deborah Nickolas of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.

Etta Grace Robson, 83, of Canonsburg, died Friday, January 11, 2008, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born Monday, February 11, 1924, in Avella, a daughter of Frank and Margaret Crow Endler.

Mrs. Robson was a Canonsburg resident for the past 10 years and previously lived in Carnegie for 22 years. She was a homemaker and Presbyterian.

Surviving are a daughter, Judy Goodman of Canonsburg; a son, Rob Robson of Canonsburg; three brothers, John Endler of Bridgeville and Richard and Charles Endler, both of Florida; a sister, Betty Wagner of Florida; seven grandchildren, Penny Haberman, Lorry Jankowski, Larry Goodman, Robert, Rachel and Stephanie Robson and Bobbie Lee Welch; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are her husband, Robert Robson; a daughter, Roberta Robson; and two brothers, Frank and Robert Endler.

MARTHA JUNE VIANO

Loved baking, cooking

and candy-making

Martha June Viano of Clarksville died Thursday, January 10, 2008.

Born in Pitt Gas, she was a daughter of the late William and Anna Petrovich and the youngest of nine children.

She was the loving mother of Natalie (Daniel) Miller, David R. Viano Jr. and mother-in-law of Shari Viano. "Grandma Marty" was the beloved grandmother of Tyler and Zachary Miller and David Viano III.

Also surviving are siblings Tillie (Henry) Daviero of Brownsville, Sara (Eli) Matovich of Waynesburg, Donald (Hazel) Petrovich and Nancy Bland of Ohio.

Deceased are a brother, Jim (Sonny); and sisters, Anna, Florence and Frances.

She always will be remembered for her love of baking, cooking, candy-making and generosity toward others.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 26, in Frank Burkus Funeral Home, 26 Mill Street, Millsboro, PA 15348.
