State police said Jeffrey Wright, 41, walked onto the highway to retrieve an item and was struck by a tractor-trailer about 3 p.m.
Both southbound lanes between the Waynesburg and Kirby exits were reopened to traffic about 6 p.m. after being closed for several hours.
