PITTSBURGH - Steve Lohle, a longtime anchor at Pittsburgh radio station KQV-AM, has died of an apparent heart attack. He was 58.
Lohle died at his Beaver County home Friday morning, news director Frank Gottlieb said.
Many people considered Lohle the voice of the station, where in recent years he anchored the afternoon newscast, Gottlieb said.
Lohle started in radio at WQRC-FM in Hyannis, Mass., where he covered Sen. Ted Kennedy's 1969 car accident that killed an aide on Chappaquiddick Island.
He later was program director at WHVY-FM and WMAS-AM in Springfield, Mass., before joining KQV in his hometown in 1974.
Lohle became interested in broadcasting at North Hills High School in suburban Pittsburgh, where he did the public address announcements.
Lohle is survived by his wife, Barbara, and 10-year-old son, Collin.
