Some willing to pay for a cleaner world

The writer of a letter to the editor published yesterday made some interesting points about the recent collection of pesticides, chemicals, paint and other nasty substances collected by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Household Hazardous Waste Task Force, the main one being that charging a fee to properly dispose of the waste only encourages people to dump it somewhere else at no charge.

Coincidentally, we received the same day a letter from the task force, thanking the public for its response and cooperation. "On June 20, more than 300 local households safely disposed of 20,000-plus pounds of household chemicals," the letter stated.

Apparently, there are a lot of people, including the writer of the previous letter, who were willing to do the right thing. It is refreshing to know that hundreds of people right here know that a cleaner environment is worth a sacrifice.
