McSummerfest wraps up with big blast Saturday

McSummerfest, the annual summer festival sponsored by the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department, wraps up Saturday with Fourth of July fireworks.

Food, games and carnival rides also are part of the festival. Johnny Angel and the Halos will perform today at 6 p.m., with Steeltown and the Community Chorus set to appear Saturday before the fireworks.

19th century Independence Day

Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Museum of Rural Life in Avella is celebrating Independence Day 19th century-style Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

'Little Shop

of Horrors'

West Virginia Public Theatre is continuing its 25th anniversary season by presenting "Little Shop of Horrors" through Sunday in Morgantown, W.Va.

First staged by West Virginia Public Theatre in 1995, "Little Shop of Horrors" tells the story of a nerdy worker in a florist shop who raises a plant that feeds on human blood. The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 movie of the same name and was created by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, the team behind "Aladdin" and "The Little Mermaid."

John Denver tribute

Oglebay Park's Fourth of July weekend celebration will feature a free concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at Anne Kuchinka Amphitheater. The show features John Denver tribute artist John Adams.

Pittsburgh Symphony in South Park

The EQT Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta kicks off today and features events through Sunday.

Powerboat racing will be held with practice rounds today and event competition Saturday.
