Tarrace L. Carter, 35, of 811 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, was arrested on charges including attempted homicide for allegedly stabbing his estranged girlfriend, Stacie Long, in the neck early Saturday.
Charleroi police were called about 5 a.m. to 811 Fallowfield for a report of a woman stabbed. Carter was found standing in the middle of the street holding a knife.
Long told police that she had a protection-from-abuse order excluding Carter from the home. She was in the bathroom when Carter forced his way into the house. He reportedly entered the bathroom and put a knife to her throat.
Ronald Bullard confronted Carter, who told him to back off or he would stab Long, according to a complaint filed with District Judge Mark Wilson. Carter left the rear of the home with Long, still holding a knife to her throat. Once outside, he stabbed her in the neck and fled on foot down an alley, police said.
Long was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital for treatment and later transferred to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh. Her condition was not released.
Carter was arraigned before Wilson on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, burglary, criminal trespass and possessing an instrument of crime. He was placed in Washington County Jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for July 14 before District Judge Larry Hopkins.
In a separate incident, Julie and Brooks Cantrell of Peters Township were stabbed early Monday following a confrontation in the alcove and in front of McGrogan's Tap Room, 45 E. Pike St., Canonsburg police said.
Canonsburg police were called about 12:30 a.m. Monday for a reported stabbing at McGrogan's. When police arrived, they found blood on the sidewalk leading into the bar.
Julie Cantrell, 37, was slashed down her back from her shoulders to her buttocks. Brooks Cantrell, 37, was bleeding on the outer forearms. He was cut when he threw up his arms to protect himself from his assailant. Bar patrons used towels to stop the bleeding.
The Cantrells told police they arrived at the bar about 11 p.m. and had a few drinks. They put $5 in the jukebox and decided to leave when the songs they paid for were over.
Julie Cantrell went to talk with a woman at the bar. When she returned to her seat, they decided to leave. As they were leaving, a man who was with the other woman made some derogatory remarks to Brooks Cantrell. Brooks Cantrell then followed him outside, where the man pulled a knife and cut them.
The Cantrells were taken to Washington Hospital for treatment. A hospital spokeswoman said they were treated and released.
Their assailant is described as white with short hair and was wearing a blue bandana and jeans. Police are continuing their investigation.
