Consol Energy warehouse supervisor enjoyed hunting
George D. Craig, 65, of Washington, died Saturday, November 17, 2007, in Washington Hospital.
He was born April 7, 1942, in Meadow Lands, a son of the late George and Ann Sosa Craig.
A 1960 graduate of Chartiers High School, Mr. Craig was a U.S. Army veteran and member of Houston American Legion Post 902, where he served on the honor guard for many years. He was also a member of Houston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and Meadow Lands Fraternal Order of Bears Den 83.
Mr. Craig was a retired warehouse supervisor for Consol Energy and member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Roman Catholic Church.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at the family camps in Pymatuning and Tidioute and playing with his grandson.
On May 28, 1966, in Washington, he married Rita "Toni" Jacobs, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Bill (Robin) Craig of Hickory and J.J. Craig of Fort Myers Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Jim Craig of Meadow Lands and Jeff Craig of Canonsburg; a grandson, Colton Craig; a brother and sister-in-law, Karol and Marlene Jacobs; and many nieces and nephews.
He also will be greatly missed by longtime, special family friend, Jennifer Craig.
Friends will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands, with Father John O'Shea as celebrant. ERNEST ROSSI
WWII Army veteran
was 46-year coal miner
Ernest (Ernie) Rossi, 83, of Hickory, died Saturday, November 17, 2007, in his home.
He was born April 24, 1924, in Hickory, a son of Angelo and Iva Jane Young Rossi.
Mr. Rossi served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed as a miner for Consolidation Coal for 46 years, working in Lynn Portal and Westland mines until his retirement in the mid-1980s.
He was a member of United Mine Workers of America and enjoyed farming and tractors.
On March 5, 1956, he married Doris Jean Malone, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mary Jane Charnik of Avella; a son, William Rossi of Meadow Lands; four sisters, Jane Kraeer, Alice Auld and Angelina King, all of Washington, and Margaret Leopold of Hickory; five grandchildren, Theodore, Matthew, Christopher, Elisabeth and Jesse Charnik; and five great-grandchildren, Matthew Charnik, Brandon and Brooklyn Lee and Asa Charnik.
Deceased are three sisters, Bessie Popp, Mary Chips and Paulina Reed; and three brothers, Harry Rossi and two infant brothers.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Nation Funeral Home Inc., 220 East Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, where services will be held at a time to be announced Wednesday, November 21, with the Rev. Douglas Reinard, pastor of Hickory Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.

EDWARD WALLACE
WWII Army veteran
was retired electrician
Edward Wallace, 83, of Carmichaels, died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, November 18, 2007, in his home.
He was born January 11, 1924, in Cairnbrook, Somerset County, a son of Charles and Pauline Moshowka Wallace.
Mr. Wallace attended Sharp High School in Somerset County and resided in Nemacolin and Cumberland Township for the past 44 years.
He worked with Civilian Conservation Corp in Philadelphia before serving with the U.S. Army during and after World War II in Company A, 19th Battalion, 4th Regiment ASFTC at Camp Planche, New Orleans, La., and the 714th Railway Operating Battalion.
Mr. Wallace retired as an electrician from Nemacolin Mine after 37 years of employment. He attended First Baptist Church of Carmichaels and was a member of United Mine Workers of America Nemacolin Local 6290.
Mr. Wallace enjoyed woodworking and the company of his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On September 12, 1945, he married Stella "Teddy" Simons, who died August 12, 1999.
Surviving are a son, Nicholas E. Wallace and wife Deborah J. Horvath-Wallace of Carmichaels; two daughters, Linda Kasecki of Erie and Charlotte Bane of Waynesburg; eight grandchildren, Brandon Wallace, Nichole Vedis, Billie Shaffer, Beth Pattenaude, Jennifer Minor, Kristina McMillen, Amber Owens and Amanda Bane; 14 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren, Mundania and Joseph Horvath; a sister, Sophia Gromack of Cairnbrook; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, William and Chester Wallace; and three sisters, Blanche Baker, Victoria Anania and Helen Cordts.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of services, Wednesday, November 21, in Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Pittsburgh trolley car operator raised Appaloosa horses
Grayce A. O'Connor Woodruff, 86, of Graysville R.D.1, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2007, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg, following a brief illness.
She was born December 25, 1920, in Springhill Township (Deep Valley), a daughter of Jackson Rexford and Ethel Harriett Moore Wright.
Mrs. Woodruff resided in the Taylorstown (Donegal Township) area for more than 30 years prior to moving to Morris Township, Greene County, in 2003.
She graduated from Hundred (W.Va.) High School.
She last was employed during World War II as one of the few female trolley car operators in Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Woodruff enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her family and grandchildren, family genealogy and raising Appaloosa horses with her late husband.
On September 25, 1953, she married H.W. "Woody" Woodruff, who died October 22, 2005.
Surviving are a daughter, Debra, wife of James D. Hewitt of Graysville R.D.1; two stepdaughters, Cheryl Dianne McAvoy of Clearwater, Fla., and Donna Joyce, wife of John Broach of Okmulgee, Okla.; a granddaughter, Lacey Lynn Hewitt; five stepgrandchildren, Danielle Lynn McAvoy Hall, Brenda Cook Williams, Dana Cook Stang, Sonya Cook Willison and Shawna Cook Couch; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Marcia Jane O'Connor Stein; a son, Patrick John O'Connor; a stepgrandson, Timothy Odell Cook; a sister, Dorthea Marling; and a brother, George B. (Junior) Wright.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 24, in Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, with the Rev. Carol Adcock officiating. Linda Mae Young, 62, of Waynesburg, died unexpectedly Friday, November 16, 2007, in her home.
She was born May 17, 1945, in Waynesburg, a daughter of Samuel and Mildred Swaniger Toland.
Mrs. Young was a homemaker and resided most of her life in the Waynesburg area. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed the company of her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons, William S. Toland and wife Brenda of Waynesburg, Paul C. Toland and friend Lana of Wind Ridge and Patricia Corwin and husband Charles of Waynesburg; seven grandchildren, Amy Dawn Toland, Jarrod Corwin, Matthew Toland, Joseph Corwin, Tyler Toland, Miranda Corwin and Jordan Corwin; three sisters, Beatrice Durbin of Waynesburg, Eileen Purman of Ohio and Delores Herrod of Waynesburg; and three brothers, Tom, Stanley and Herman Toland, all of Waynesburg.
Deceased are a son, John Toland; three brothers, Ray, Harold and James Toland; and a sister, Nellie Shrader.
