WALTER R. CONKLIN JR.

WWII veteran was retired bus driver for GG&C

Walter R. "Dutch" Conklin Jr., 86, of Waynesburg, formerly of Washington, died Sunday, December 9, 2007, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

He was born April 10, 1921, in Houston, a son of Walter R. Conklin Sr. and Jeanie Stewart Conklin.

On June 26, 1948, he married Anna Marie Barnhart, who died May 6, 1986.

Mr. Conklin was a retired bus driver for GG&C in Canonsburg and also worked briefly as a coal miner in Valley Camp Mine.

A veteran of World War II, he was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received while serving with the U.S. Army in France.

Mr. Conklin was an excellent mechanic and enjoyed repairing cars.

Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, is a sister, Mildred Ward. He was the last of his immediate family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 West High Street, Waynesburg. Private interment will be held in Brush Run Cemetery, Peters Township.

FRANK K. COX

Retired teacher was

historian, author, veteran

Frank K. (Ken) Cox, 69, of Eighty Four, died at 7:50 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2007, in his home, following a one-year illness.

He was born September 10, 1938, in Canonsburg, a son of Frank K. Sr. and Edna A. Beers Cox.

Mr. Cox graduated from Canonsburg High School, Clarion State Teachers College and earned a master's degree from West Virginia University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He was a member of St. Patrick Church, Canonsburg.

Mr. Cox lived in the Eighty Four area for the past 39 years.

Until his retirement in 1994, he had been employed for 28 years in Bethel Park School District. Prior to that, he taught history in Bedford and McGuffey School districts.

A historian and author, he published a book, "Human Heritage," and was a member of Washington County Historical Society.

He was a member of American Legion Post 175 of Washington.

Mr. Cox was an avid golfer.

On July 7, 1962, he married Carol A. Bernard, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Eric K. (Terry) Cox of Hendersonville and Jeffrey L. Cox of Canonsburg; two grandchildren, James C. Cox and Jessica L. Cox; and a niece, Robin (Stu) Rieben.

He was the last of his immediate family.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Karen Markovich.

Friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Korean War vet, Matthews International employee

Richard G. Ingram, 79, of Venetia, died Thursday, December 6, 2007.

He was the beloved husband of Lucy Ingram; loving father of David Ingram and wife LeeAnn of Venetia and the late Richard Ingram; grandfather of Kyle Ingram; father-in-law of MaryAnn Garrigan and husband Pat of Richmond, Va.; and brother of Alberta Baer of Willingboro, N.J.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ingram served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a sales representative with Matthews International for more than 30 years.

He was a member of Thomas Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge 684 of Dormont and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584 of Masontown.

Canonsburg resident enjoyed listening to country music

Vera Alberta Klaus, 87, of Canonsburg, died Monday, December 10, 2007, in her home, following a lengthy illness.

She was born March 19, 1920, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Grover Sr. and Hazel Fulford O'Bryan.

Mrs. Klaus was a devoted homemaker.

She enjoyed building puzzles, listening to country music, playing cards and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Klaus was a member of New Life Tabernacle of Washington.

Surviving are her seven daughters, Jane Ross of West Mifflin, Alberta Pearl Ringling of Washington, Rose (Frank) Bennett of Washington, Doris (Elmer) Young of Canonsburg, Mary Ellen McKinney of Canonsburg, Frances Boucher of Washington and Louella (Dave) Patton of Washington; and a son, James G. Klaus of Cokeburg.

Also surviving are two grandsons, whom she raised, James W. Klaus and Dennis K. McKinney; several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane Birmingham; and a brother, George O'Bryan, both of California state.

Deceased are a daughter, Hazel Kluscovitch; several grandchildren; and sisters and brothers.

Beacon of love and faith

Susan Carol Stewart McAndrew, 44, of Houston, died Sunday, December 9, 2007, in her home, surrounded by family.

She was born Monday, October 21, 1963, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of James and Betty Williamson Stewart of Gladden.

Mrs. McAndrew was a member of Gladden United Presbyterian Church, South Fayette, where she was an ordained elder, clerk of session and an advocate for children's ministries in the church.

She was active in other community organizations such as South Fayette Relay for Life. Because of her joy of life, strength of faith and gift of love and caring, she was considered a beacon by all those she touched.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Michael McAndrew of Houston; daughters Jordan McAndrew and Madelyn McAndrew, both of Houston, Katelyn McAndrew of Peters Township and Erin McAndrew of Mt. Lebanon; a son, Christopher McAndrew of Oakdale; a brother, Larry (Debi) Stewart of Gladden; a sister, Sharon (Jamie) Schidek of Rennerdale; and father- and mother-in-law, Robert T. and Jeanette McAndrew of Sommers Point, N.J.

JOHN MCCANN

Carmichaels resident was U.S. Army veteran of WWII

John McCann, 85, of Masontown, formerly of Carmichaels, died Sunday, December 9, 2007, in Uniontown Hospital.

He was born in Palmer December 22, 1921, a son of Michael and Rose Verban McCann.

Mr. McCann was a graduate of Cumberland Township High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

For 28 years, Mr. McCann worked as a supervisor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of General Services, Bureau of Construction, District 4. He retired in December 1983.

He was a member of American Legion Post 423 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584. He was an honorary member of Carmichaels and Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Department, having served on the board of directors for many years.

Mr. McCann served as a past site council president of Carmichaels Senior Citizens Center and was mayor of Carmichaels Borough in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He served as president of King Coal Association from 1957 to 1958.

An avid sports fan, he enjoyed football and especially baseball, having coached many Little League and legion baseball teams. In 1962, he coached an American Legion baseball team to the championships in Patton, an accomplishment he was very proud of.

He was a member of All Saints Roman Catholic Church in Masontown.

Surviving are a daughter, Glenda and husband Reggie Beal of Carmichaels; a stepdaughter, Barbara and husband Michael Gazy of Apalachin, N.Y.; a stepson, Joseph Williams and wife Connie of Masontown; grandchildren Natalie and husband Clyde M. Jeffries III of Rices Landing, Nicole and husband Bert Leasher of Scottdale, Jason Beal and Devan Policz of Carmichaels, Justin Beal and wife Gina of Carmichaels and John Williams and wife Ali of Masontown; and great-grandchildren Morgan Jeffries, Daniel Bert Leasher and Jared Cole Leasher.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his first wife, Marjorie Darrah McCann; his second wife, Camilla McCann; brothers Lawrence, Nicholas, Matthew and Stephen; and a sister, Anna M. Potter.

He was the last of his immediate family.

RONALD DEAN MOUNTS

Claysville resident was WWII U.S. Army veteran

Ronald Dean Mounts, 81, of Claysville, died Monday, December 10, 2007, in Kade Nursing Home, Washington.

He was born May 11, 1926, in Claysville, a son of William and Sylvia Scott Mounts.

Mr. Mounts was a member of Living Waters Church of God, Washington.

He worked for Weber Furniture and Herd's Drug Store until his retirement.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Mounts enjoyed visiting family, sitting on the front porch, watching TV and eating pie during his retirement.

On April 5, 1947, he married Helen Caroline Phillips, who died May 15, 2005. Together, they had celebrated 58 years of marriage.

Also surviving are three sons, the Rev. Ronald D. (Karen) Mounts of New Castle, Lawrence H. (Debby) Mounts of Washington and Timothy L. (Mary Jane) Mounts of Claysville; a daughter-in-law, Charmane Mounts of Claysville; a brother, Sherman Mounts, and a sister, Martha Rinehart, both of Claysville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son, F. Stanley Mounts; four brothers, Cephas, Charles, Melvin and William Mounts; and two sisters, Mildred Applegate and Louise Breese.

Life member of

Virginia Ruth (Ginny) Larkin Orndoff, 77, of Washington, died Monday, December 10, 2007, in her Manifold home. She had been ill since September.

She was born December 26, 1929, in Washington, a daughter of John M. and Bertha Robertson Larkin.

Mrs. Orndoff was a 1947 graduate of Trinity High School, where she was a band member.

For 10 years, she worked as an assembler at RCA Corp., and she also worked at J.C. Penney and Tygart Valley Glass.

Mrs. Orndoff was a lifelong member of Washington Alliance Church and South Strabane Volunteer Fire Department 2 Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed her grandchildren and watching them play on local sports teams, including TWIST Softball. She loved spending time with her dog, Minnie.

On August 26, 1950, she married William H. Orndoff, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert W. (Barbara) Orndoff and David L. Orndoff, both of Washington; a daughter, Judith A. Boone of Washington; a brother, Robert Larkin of Washington; a sister, Gail Hart of Houston; and five grandchildren, Carrie (William) Nabors, Michelle Orndoff, Bobbi Orndoff, Joshua Orndoff and Olivia Orndoff.

Deceased are four brothers, Harold, David, Delmer and John Larkin; and three sisters, Leila Moore, Vera Bennett and Grace Shoup.

LOGAN THOMAS VAUGHAN

Ringgold H.S. senior enjoyed art, golf, making friends

Logan Thomas Vaughan, 18, of Monongahela, died Saturday, December 8, 2007, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born February 10, 1989, in Hartford, Conn., a son of Lee and Sandi Dawkins Vaughan of Monongahela.

He also was known as "Buddy," "Doog," "Cash Game Specialist," "Doogan" and "Bro." He loved making friends and helping others.

A Ringgold High School senior, he was a member of First United Methodist Church and Boy Scout Troop 1448, both of Monongahela.

For the past year, he was employed with Giant Eagle, Fisher Heights.

He loved hanging out with his family and friends and working on his Camaro and had a passion for artwork, especially drawing flames. He enjoyed golf, fantasy football, basketball, watching Comedy Central, bonfires, shoveling snow, poker and sunflower seeds.

He said the happiest day of his life was when the Sheetz in Monongahela opened.

An animal whisperer, he was very fond of his own animals, including Shia, Chief, Angel and Ike. Even after his death, he continued to give to others by being an organ donor.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a sister, Kelsey Lee Vaughan at home; maternal grandmother Christine Braid Dawkins of Coal Center; paternal grandfather Anderson Vaughan of Suffield, Conn.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Deceased are his maternal grandfather, John W. Dawkins; and his paternal grandmother, Marian Harman Vaughan.

He will be sadly missed by his friends.

T. FRED WOLFE

Longtime area pastor and Bethel Park resident

The Rev. T. Fred Wolfe, 94, longtime area pastor and resident of Bethel Park, died Saturday, December 8, 2007.

He was the beloved husband of 65 years of Fern O. Pierce Wolfe; father of David (Thea) Wolfe, Deane (Sharon) Wolfe and Diann (Robert) Sessum; grandfather of Mark, Matthew, Cathleen, David and Daniel Wolfe and Ryan, Jared and Justin and the late Bret Sessum.

Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Wolfe was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and graduated from Northwestern Bible School and Theological Seminary in Minneapolis.

During four decades in the ministry, he pastored Library Baptist Church, Cobden Street Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, Broad Street Baptist Church in Washington, Calvary Baptist Church in Washington and Grace Baptist Church in Pleasant Hills.

During the 1950s, he was a director of Conservative Baptist Theological Seminary in Denver; in the 1960s, he was state missionary for the Conservative Baptist Association of Pennsylvania; and in the 1970s, he became director of International Students Inc. on campuses of University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Melon University.

DESSIE IRENE YEAGER

31-year RCA employee

enjoyed gardening, baking

Dessie Irene (Jackie) Yeager, 86, of Washington, died Sunday, December 9, 2007, in Washington Hospital, surrounded by her family. She had been in declining health.

She was born April 18, 1921, in Washington, a daughter of William and Hannah Gatts Rodgers.

She was Protestant.

During World War II, while her husband, Albert, was serving in the U.S. Navy, she worked for the U. S. Navy Department, Mare Island, Calif., and the U.S. Post Office in San Francisco, Calif.

Prior to her retirement in 1981, she was a group leader for RCA, Meadow Lands, for 31 years.

She had a great love for gardening, having designed her own yard, which was admired by many. She loved to share her plants, especially her hostas, with all her friends and neighbors. She will be remembered every spring as they begin to sprout and blossom throughout the summer.

Her family and friends will miss her delicious cookies and candy, which she baked and gave lovingly.

Mrs. Yeager was honored to have been selected to open one of the charitable nights at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino in June 2007.

She will be deeply missed by her family, especially her daughter, Carole, and grandson Scott, and all her friends. She will live in their hearts forever.

On October 6, 1942, she married Albert L. Yeager, who died March 28, 2005. They celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Surviving are her daughter, Carole Yeager Beck, who had resided with her mother since 2005; and her grandson, Scott E. Novak of Washington.

Also surviving are her sister, Gladys Skariot of Washington; a brother, Archie (Salome) Rodgers of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; grandchildren Charles Yeager and Beth Ann Isenberg; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a son, James W. (Jack) Yeager; a grandson, William (Billy) Yeager; three brothers, Robert, Clarence and John Rodgers; and five sisters, Myrtle Rodgers, Adella Rodgers, Goldie Dempster, Olive Obney and Dorothy Virtue.
