Since its first branch opened in Carmichaels, Pa. in 1924, the top priority of First Federal of Greene County has been to serve its customers.
With both full or partial-service locations in Carmichaels, Waynesburg, Washington, Uniontown and Taylorstown, and a subsidiary office in Morgantown, it is easier than ever for First Federal to provide its customers with the services they need.
"The goal is to be a community bank, to serve communities and to buy, build and improve residences," said Scott O'Neil, President of First Federal.
First Federal of Green County specializes in mortgages and home loans and serves mainly individuals and small businesses. It is currently managing nearly 50,000 accounts, and has consistently held a five-star rating for the past 35 years.
"That's what this was originally chartered for, to establish a place where people can get affordable home loans," O'Neil said. "That hasn't changed over the years."
Regular services include checking and savings accounts, student loans, safe deposit boxes, online and telephone banking, IRA's, direct deposit, and credit life and accident insurance. Money orders, American Express travelers checks and U.S. Savings Bonds are also available, and ATM terminals can be found at nine locations.
O'Neil has been with the bank for almost 39 years. He is proud of the efficiency and friendly atmosphere First Federal offers daily, but also of the extra support it gives to the community that makes the business unique.
He said the privately owned bank has been a long-time supporter of local 4-H clubs, and frequently makes contributions to local school music programs. It also offers two accounts specifically for kids. The Looney Tunes account was created to teach children how to save money, while the education account allows students of all ages to save for college and, through a drawing, gives eight students the chance to win a four-year renewable scholarship.
O'Neil said the bank tries to offer all of its services on a very personal basis, and to provide the best customer-business relationship possible. The turn-over rate for employees is low, ensuring that customers will almost always walk into the bank and see a familiar face.
"It's good to know we helped someone get something they want or need, and see them walk away with a smile on their face," O'Neil said. "Knowing that they're happy makes me happy."
