David R. Adams

Eighty Four resident, U.S. Army veteran

David R. Adams, 61, of Eighty Four, died Friday, December 26, 2008.

He was the beloved husband of 39 years to Connie Shaw; father of Joan (Jeff) Neu and Pam (Brandon) Kamerer; grandfather of Brad Neu and Alayna Kamerer; and brother of John W. (Linda) Adams and Peggy (George) Ondayko.

Also surviving are nieces and nephews.

He was a son of the late Wayne and Margaret Adams.

Mr. Adams was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam.

He worked for Mathies Coal Mine and, at the time of his death, for Peters Township School District.

In his spare time, Mr. Adams enjoyed working the family Christmas tree farm.

Jack R. Bradmon

U.S. Army veteran

Jack R. Bradmon, 48, of Carmichaels, crossed over to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 25, 2008, after a lengthy battle with multiple sclerosis.

He was born October 3, 1960, in Washington, D.C., a son of Howard R. “Bud” and Sara Ann Swartz Bradmon of Carmichaels.

Mr. Bradmon was a graduate of South Creek High School, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Waynesburg University and attended California University of Pennsylvania for his master’s degree.

He served for 10 years in the U.S. Army. He is a Kuwait Freedom Day veteran and U.S. Army veteran.

Mr. Bradmon was a member of Church of Christ in Rices Landing.

In addition to his parents, surviving are a daughter, Katelyn Marie Bradmon; a son, Jacob Russell Bradmon of Chesapeake, Va.; two brothers, Ben Bradmon and wife Lynn of Rices Landing and Eugene Bradmon and wife Jenny of Rices Landing; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Lesako Funeral Home Inc., Paul M. Lesako, funeral director/supervisor, 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Church of Christ, P.O. Box 357, Nemacolin, PA 15351.

Beverly A. Dunch

Leaders Nursing Home dietary aide

Beverly A. Dunch, 61, of Burgettstown, formerly of Canonsburg, died Monday, December 22, 2008, as a result of a car accident.

She was born February 13, 1947, in Hickory, a daughter of the late Ann Brincko and Clifford Sethman.

Mrs. Dunch was Catholic.

She was a dietary aide for Leaders Nursing Home.

Mrs. Dunch was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles in Canonsburg and its Women’s Auxiliary.

On September 28, 2008, she married George Dunch, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, John Radinsky Jr. of Canonsburg; two stepdaughters, Lisa Dunch of Burgettstown and Vicki Dunch of Washington; three stepgrandchildren; and cousins Sharon Blair of Norfolk, Va., Joann Ruetschi of Claysville and Joe Moger of Suffolk, Va.

Francis Enoch Jr. died Thursday, December 25, 2008, in Washington Hospital.

James S. Ewig

WWII veteran was retired RCA supervisor

James S. Ewig, 83, of Canonsburg, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008, in Canonsburg General Hospital.

He was born September 20, 1925, in Canonsburg, a son of Elmer and Mary Janet Cameron Ewig.

Mr. Ewig served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion.

Prior to retirement, he worked as a maintenance supervisor for RCA.

Surviving are two sons, Jeff Ewig (Marcia) of Canonsburg and Gregory Ewig (Sharon) of Washington; three daughters, Becky Pastor (Richard) of Clermont, Fla., Debra Mastrangelo (Sidney) of Dunnellon, Fla., and Lori Carter (Robert) of Washington; a sister, Martha Arblaster of Delmont; nine grandchildren, Doug and Brian Pastor, Elaine Mastrangelo, Daniel, Michelle, Matthew, Stacey and Zachary Ewig and Jon Carter; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Ewig.

Deceased are his wife, Elizabeth Gubasko Ewig; two brothers, John and Robert Ewig; a sister, Frances White; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Ewig.

Shawn O. Flynn

Truck driver, Canonsburg U.P. Church member

Shawn O. Flynn, 44, of Canonsburg, died Friday, December 26, 2008, in Akron, Ohio, as a result of injuries sustained in a tractor-trailer accident.

He was born May 13, 1964, in Pittsburgh, a son of Peg Cole Flynn of Washington and the late William H. Flynn.

Mr. Flynn was a 1982 graduate of Washington High School and graduated from Control Data Institute in 1985.

He was a member of Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church and its choir. He formerly had been a member of Church of the Covenant in Washington and Hickory United Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Flynn was employed as a truck driver for MC Tank Inc. of Coraopolis for the past three years and had been driving truck for 15 years.

For nine years, Mr. Flynn served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and had attained the rank of corporal.

He was a member of Sunset Lodge 623 F&AM of Washington and Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Flynn enjoyed riding motorcycles, cooking, spending time with friends, hosting family parties and his pet dogs.

On December 5, 1987, he married Diane Caldwell, who survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are two sisters, Colleen Molinaro (Steven) of Washington and Carolyn F. Marengere (Richard D.) of Southgate, Mich.; and 12 nieces and nephews.

James D. Johnson

U.S. Army vet was motorman for Bethlehem Mines

James D. Johnson, 63, of Ellsworth, died Friday, December 26, 2008, in his home. 

He was born March 8, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a son of the late Milton Johnson Sr. and Pauline Smollar Johnson.

A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army in Germany.

Mr. Johnson worked as a motorman in the former Bethlehem Mines in Mine 51, Ellsworth, and Mine 60, Somerset Township.

Surviving are his companion of 13 years, Dorothy Fordyce of Ellsworth; three children, James Johnson, Jamie Morris and Patrick Johnson, all of Washington; five grandchildren; three sisters, Patty Klanchar (the late William) of Perryopolis, Pamela Blenda (husband Stanley) of Scenery Hill and Paula Franks (husband William) of Vestaburg; a brother, Milton Johnson of Scenery Hill; and four nieces and four nephews.

Walter L. Kriznik

1953-2008

Walter (Wally) L. Kriznik, 55, of Burgettstown, died Friday, December 26, 2008, in UPMC-Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born February 22, 1953, in Canonsburg, a son of Betty J. Kriznik of Slovan and the late Walter Kriznik.

Mr. Kriznik was the owner and operator of Wally’s Auto and Towing Service in Burgettstown.

He was a graduate of Union High School, Burgettstown.

Mr. Kriznik was a member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Avella.

He also was a member of Slovan Volunteer Fire Department from 1971 to 2008, where he served as past chief and past president, and he was a member of Richard Vaux Lodge 454.

Surviving are his wife, Cathy Kriznik of Burgettstown; a son, Brandon Kriznik of Burgettstown; a daughter, Courtney Caldwell and husband Steven of Atlasburg; two sisters, Diana Charlier of Bulger and Michelle Meneely and husband Charles of Burgettstown; his mother-in-law, Helen Andrews of Burgettstown; a brother-in-law, James Trimarcki of Burgettstown; and several nieces and nephews.

He will be deeply missed by his soul mate, Cathy.

Deceased, in addition to his father, is a sister, Debra Ann Trimarcki, who died November 8, 2008.

Nicolas S. Luisi

WWII,  Korean War veteran

Nicolas S. Luisi, 82, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, December 27, 2008, in Canonsburg General Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born February 1, 1926, in Butler, a son of Antonio and Concetta Luisi.

Mr. Luisi lived most of his life in Canonsburg, where he was a member of St. Patrick Church.

He had served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he received many citations and medals for his service.

Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a supervisor in production control in the former McGraw-Edison Power Systems and Cooper Industries in Canonsburg.

Mr. Luisi was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 3291 of Canonsburg and a former member and past president of Canonsburg-Houston Kiwanis Club.

He was an avid golfer.

On June 20, 1948, he married Carmela J. Lucchitti, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Nicolas Paul Luisi of Clearwater, Fla., David John Luisi of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Donald Mark (Patricia) Luisi of Bulger; a brother, Anthony (Mary) Luisi of Houston; a granddaughter, Rachel Carmela Holler; two grandsons, Andrew Anthony and Nicholas Donald Luisi; a stepgranddaughter, Nicole Branson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased are four brothers, Michael, Carl, John and Dan Luisi; and a sister, Filomena Spadoni.

Marian McKee

Resident of Friendship Village

Marian McKee, 91, died Wednesday December 24, 2008, in the nursing facility at Friendship Village, Upper St. Clair.

She was born December 11, 1917, in Indiana.

She was a daughter of Mary Edna and Louis Shank, and was a longtime resident of Scott Township. Mrs. McKee was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Scott Township.

Her husband of 37 years, James McKee, died September 19, 1987.

Mrs. McKee volunteered for many charities, most importantly Meals on Wheels.

Surviving are a daughter, Kara Petras and husband Rod; a grandson, Andrew of Houston; a sister, Lois Kime of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers and two sisters.

Ellen Flynn Moats

Mapletown U.M. Church member, Greensboro resident

Ellen Flynn Moats, 90, of Greensboro, died at 3:50 a.m.  Saturday, December 27, 2008, in Cloverdale Personal Care Home, Masontown.

She was born July 11, 1918, in Georges Township, Fayette County, a daughter of Peter Francis and Alice Mae Dillow Flynn.

Mrs. Moats resided in the Greensboro area most of her life and enjoyed bowling.

She was a member of Mapletown United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer of United Methodist Women.

On February 24, 1940, she married Kenneth D. Moats, who died December 10, 1985.

Surviving are a son, Robert K. Moats and wife Jean of Westover, W.Va.; a daughter, Joy Lynne Miller and husband Douglas of Garards Fort; four grandchildren, Susan Moreland and husband Larry, Douglas Miller Jr. and wife Nellie, Robert Moats II and wife Amy and Lori Fowler and husband Michael; five great-grandchildren, Melissa, Amanda and Megan Moreland and Reese and Hadley Moats; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a grandson, Eric Moats; a brother, Peter J. Flynn; and two sisters, Thelma Salyers and Edith Franks.

Geraldine V. Montgomery

Washington Hospital retiree

Geraldine V. Montgomery, 86, of Amity, died Friday, December 26, 2008, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

She was born June 19, 1922, in West Bethlehem Township, a daughter of Archie B. and Clara Horn Montgomery.

Miss Montgomery attended West Bethlehem schools. She worked in Washington Hospital for 23 years in central supply until her retirement in 1984.

A member of North Ten Mile Baptist Church, she also belonged to Mission Circle. She also was a member of Martha Washington Quilting Society.

She loved reading, making handmade quilts and cross-stitching.

Surviving are a brother, Ray E. and wife Peg Montgomery of Lone Pine; a sister, Katy and husband T. Ray Doty of Amity; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and great-great-nieces and -nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are three brothers, Lloyd, Guy and Harold Montgomery.

Charles William Phillips Jr.

Charles William “Pops” Phillips Jr., 67, loving son, brother, father, grandfather and teacher was called home to his Father Wednesday, December 17, 2008.

Surviving are his beloved mother, Dorothy; brother Roy and sister-in-law Sharon Phillips; son Bill and daughter-in-law Raquel Phillips; son Eric and daughter-in-law Nancy; daughter Laura (his “weasel”); grandchildren Zachary, Danielle, Ashtyn, Madison, Chelsea, Hannah and Michael; nephews Nathan, Jacob, Joel and Josh; and great-nephews and -nieces Kyle, Bailey, Kayeli, Emily and Tyler.

Deceased is his father, Charles “Bud” Phillips Sr.

The family will be taking his ashes back to Pennsylvania from Texas this spring to enjoy the first day of trout season and then will be placing them at the foot of his father’s grave in Green Ridge Memorial Cemetery, Connellsville.

Rose Marie Rupar, 83, of McDonald, Robinson Township, died Saturday, December 27, 2008, in John J. Kane Regional Center, Scott Township.

She was born November 29, 1925, in North Fayette Township, a daughter of Ludvick and Mildred Pleskovich.

A homemaker, Mrs. Rupar was a member of St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church and Imperial SNPJ.

Surviving are two sons, Ronald (Alberta) Rupar of Florida and Robert (Kathie Wolanski) Rupar of Aliquippa; a brother, Rudy Pleskovich of McDonald; four grandchildren, Brian, Andrew, Jeanette and Robert Jr. Rupar; and a great-grandchild.

Deceased are her husband, Emil F. Rupar (November 17, 2002); and two brothers, Louis and Frank Pleskovich.
