Police took into custody the driver of a vehicle that struck three children on Browns Ferry Road at Liberty Street in Cumberland Township about 4 p.m. Saturday.

State police in Waynesburg said a sport utility vehicle driven by Stephen Dodson of Carmichaels was traveling east on Browns Ferry when it drifted to the right and struck two boys and a girl. Police did not identify the children but said the girl was from Crucible and the boys were from Nemacolin.

Police said Dodson fled and was stopped about four miles away. He smelled of alcohol, police said.

An investigation was continuing, and police expected to file charges against Dodson.

Information on the conditions of the children was not available.
