Carmichaels stays unbeaten in section

Carmichaels improved to 3-0 in Section 3-A but not without a struggle as the Mikes hung on for a 53-47 win over Geibel.

Carmichaels (3-0, 6-4) led 28-11 at halftime after holding Geibel (3-2, 5-7) to only three points in the second quarter. But the Gators rallied and outscored the Mikes 36-25 in the second half.

Jordan Duke led Carmichaels with a game-high 20 points. Shayleigh Busti also scored 14 points and Lynn Christopher added 10 points for the Mikes. Molly Stuvek had an outstanding game defensively for the Mikes with 15 rebounds and five steals.

Bentworth 63, Frazier 43: Samantha Ritzer poured in 12 of her 22 points in the fourth quarter and Bentworth put the clamps defensively on Frazier in the second half to defeat the Commodores, 63-43, in Section 5-AA.

The score was tied at 34-34 but the Bearcats (2-2, 6-4) allowed just three points in the third quarter and six in the fourth.

Bentworth's Jenna Dorazio had a great all-around game with 11 points, 10 rebounds, six blocks and six steals. Amanda Kennedy scored only two points but grabbed 17 boards.

Chelsea Howser led all scorers with 24 points for Frazier (0-5, 1-8).

Trinity 49, Canon-McMillan 32: The Hillers won their first Section 4-AAAA game of the season as they defeated the host Big Macs 49-32.

Ashley Morran led Trinity (1-4, 6-4) with 15 points.

Emily Hansen scored a game-high 16 points for Canon-McMillan (0-5, 1-10). She had four three-pointers.

Mt. Lebanon 66, Ringgold 28: The Blue Devils were too much for the Rams as Mt. Lebanon routed Ringgold 66-28 in a Section 4-AAAA contest.

Mt. Lebanon (5-0, 11-0) jumped out to a 26-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and upped the advantage to 49-13 by halftime.

Eleven different players scored for Mt. Lebanon. Emily Miller led the Blue Devils with 11 points and Chelsea Aeke added 10 points.

Jennie Affinito led Ringgold (0-5, 3-8) with seven points.

West Greene 53, Jefferson-Morgan 32: Cecilia Klein scored 19 points as West Greene defeated Jefferson-Morgan, 53-32, in a Section 3-A game.

Macy McMillan added 12 points, while Cathy Mason and Samantha Milliken chipped in 10 each for the Pioneers (1-3, 2-8).

Shelby Yourchik led Jeff-Morgan (0-4, 1-11) with 15 points.

Avella 61, Cornell 45: Alexis Quader's 16 points paced Avella to a 61-45 win over Cornell in a Section 2-A game.

Jasman Papa chipped in 13 points, while Amanda Temple added 10, for the Eagles (1-1, 8-3), who led 37-20 at the half.

Thomas Jefferson 65, Waynesburg 23: A 23-4 second quarter fueled Thomas Jefferson to a 65-23 victory over Waynesburg in Section 5-AAA.

The teams were tied 8-8 after the first quarter before the Jaguars (2-0, 3-7) broke the game open. Taylor Lotis scored 16 points and Shannan Hines had 10 for TJ.

Jesse Kisner led the Raiders (0-2, 3-8) with 11 points.

Clairton 54, Fort Cherry 51: Clairton erased a three-point deficit entering the fourth quarter and handed visiting Fort Cherry just its second loss of the season, 54-51, in a Section 2-A game.

The Bears (2-0, 5-4) out-scored the Rangers (1-1, 9-2) 18-12 in the final quarter. Alexis Sayles, who led all scorers with 16 points, scored seven in the final frame. Cherell White added 10 points for Clairton.

Three players scored in double figures for Fort Cherry, led by Johnna McGivern's 15. Sidney Walter scored 12 and Marissa Miles chipped in 11.

Monessen 75, Mapletown 27: Samone Stepoli and Jessica Diggs each scored 20 points as Monessen defeated Mapletown, 75-27, in Section 3-A.

The Greyhounds (4-0, 8-3) led by 22 at halftime then extended the lead to 39 after three quarters.

Kaitlyn Novak led the Maples (1-3, 3-7) with 18 points.

Serra 62, Chartiers-Houston 19: Jade Stewart out-scored Chartiers-Houston by herself, netting 30 points in Serra's 62-19 victory in Section 2-A.

Stewart was the only player for either team to score in double figures. Rachel Tucker led the Bucs (0-2, 3-9) with six points.

Belle Vernon 42, McGuffey 37: Belle Vernon held off a late McGuffey rally and earned a 42-37 victory in Section 5-AAA.

Jocelyn Connolly scored 14 points and Jessalyn Timko had 13 for the Leopards (2-0, 3-8). Elisa Schober led the Highlanders (0-2, 3-7) with 12 points.

In other games, Washington defeated Brownsville, 43-39, in Section 5-AA and South Fayette defeated Brentwood, 49-36, in Section 3-AA.

Boys basketball

California 53, Beth-Center 48: California out-scored Beth-Center by six over the final eight minutes and earned a 53-48 non-section victory.

Ben Carson led the Trojans (6-5) with 12 points and John Tyler scored 11. Eight players scored for California.

Levi Whited led all scorers with 20 points and Tyler Miller had 10 for the Bulldogs (4-6).
