Blocked shot saves Cal versus Cheyney
Chris Moore blocked a potential game-winning shot with 0.3 seconds remaining Saturday to preserve a 55-53 victory for California over Cheyney at Hamer Hall.
With Cal (6-5) leading 54-53, Moore blocked a jump shot by Cheyney's Tyrone Smith and the Vulcans' Kelsey Williams rebounded. Following a timeout, Cal's Kenny Johnson, who scored a team-high 11 points, made one of two free throws.
Cheyney (7-3) led 30-24 at halftime, but a 10-1 run by Cal early in the second half gave the Vulcans a 36-33 advantage. The Vulcans held the lead until Dwayne Easley's free throw with 1:44 to play gave Cheyney a 50-49 lead.

Two free throws by Kevin Presbery with 16 seconds left pulled Cheyney to within 54-53, and a California turnover gave the Wolves a chance to win but Moore blocked Smith's shot.
Williams scored 10 points for California.
Smith scored a game-high 15 points and Dominque Curry had 14. Easley grabbed 20 rebounds including 10 on the offensive end.
Wash & Jeff 91, Thomas More 67: Senior center Josip Lucic-Jozak scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds in only 23 minutes of playing time as Washington & Jefferson won its second-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference, 91-67 over league-leading Thomas More at Henry Memorial Center.
The Presidents (2-2, 9-5) shot 58 percent en route to scoring its season high.
Lucic-Jozak became the 12th player in W&J history to score 1,200 points. He now has 1,208 points.
Matt Drakeley added a career-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting and had five assists.
Wahab Owolabi scored 12 points and Albert Varacallo had 10 for W&J.
Brian Muse led Thomas More (4-2, 8-5) with 12 points and Daniel McKeehan had 11.
Geneva 81, Waynesburg 60: Dave Phillips scored 26 points to lead Geneva to only its third win of the season, 81-60 over visiting Waynesburg.
Brandon Harvey contributed 14 points and Justin Nardi had 10 for Geneva (3-9), which snapped a four-game losing streak. The Golden Tornadoes shot 51 percent from the field.
Ryan Courneen scored 15 points and was the only player in double figures for Waynesburg (5-8), which committed 23 turnovers and was outrebounded 40-27. Waynesburg has lost four of its last five games.
Robert Morris 72, Sacred Heart 70, OT: Jeremy Chappell hit a jumper with 2 seconds left in overtime as Robert Morris defeated Sacred Heart 72-70.
Campbell had 19 points for the Colonials (10-7), who also got 16 from Jimmy Langhurst. Rob Robinson added 13 and Dallas Green had 10.
Joey Henley led the Pioneers (5-10) with 23 points, his second consecutive game over 20 points. Corey Hassan finished with 17 for Sacred Heart while Ryan Litke had 12 and Chauncey Hardy had 10.
Duquesne 98, St. Bonaventure 80: Bill Clark scored 24 points, leading Duquesne to a 98-80 win over St. Bonaventure.
Aaron Jackson scored 20 points, while Melquan Bolding scored 16. Eric Evans chipped in 14 points for the Dukes (11-4, 2-0 Atlantic 10), while Jason Duty added 13.
Andrew Nicholson scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Bonnies (10-5, 1-1). Jonathan Hall added 14 and had six assists. Tyler Benson scored 10 points.
Duquesne never trailed, taking a 44-32 halftime lead after a 10-0 run.
Duquesne shot 50 percent from the field and was 13-of-27 on 3 pointers.
St. Bonaventure shot 45.9 percent from the field and was 6-of-16 from beyond the arc.
Women's results
California 100, Cheyney 58: Behind a career-high 40 points from senior Lindsay Johnson, including the 1,000th of her career, California rolled to a 100-58 victory over Cheyney at Hamer Hall.
Johnson is the 22nd player in California history to score 1,000 career points. Teammate Brooque Williams joined the 1,000-point club on Wednesday.
The win improved California, ranked No. 8 in NCAA Division II, to 10-2. Cheyney is 5-3.
Johnson finished the game with 40 points on 14-of-21 shooting, including six-of-eight from three-point range. The 40 points is the second-best single-game total in school history behind only the 64 scored by Lara Thornton in 1994.
Johnson torched Cheyney for 27 first-half points as the Vulcans forged a 58-28 lead.
Williams finished with her fourth-straight double-double, scoring 19 points to go with a game-high 16 rebounds. Kayla Smith scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds.
Geneva 75, Waynesburg 60: Christine Carugati and Alyssa Miller each scored 19 points to lead Geneva to a 75-60 victory over visiting Waynesburg.
Beth DeLuca scored 13 points and Rachel Barry had 10 for Geneva (7-5) which shot 51 percent from the field.
Waynesburg (4-8) was led by Elisha Jones' 15 points. Callie White scored 11 points for the Yellow Jackets, who had 14 offensive rebounds but shot only 36 percent from the field.
