Smith's 22 paces Presidents This article has been read 153 times. Observer-Reporter Stephanie Smith scored 22 points and W&J overcame a slow start to defeat visiting Waynesburg, 67-51, Saturday in a PAC contest. It was the 21st consecutive victory for W&J (4-2, 11-4) over Waynesburg. The Yellow Jackets have not beaten the Presidents since 1997. Smith was 6-for-12 from three-point range and helped W&J overcome a shaky start. The Presidents made only one of their first 11 shots but still led 4-2 more than eight minutes into the game.
Waynesburg (0-6, 1-14), which lost its 14th consecutive game, couldn't take advantage of W&J's struggles. The Yellow Jackets made only two of their first 11 shots. Jen Rogers scored 12 points for W&J and Sarah Hunt came off the bench to score 11. Freshman Elisha Jones led Waynesburg with 20 points. Jeanette Wonsettler scored 13.
California 71, Clarion 42: Amber Dubyak made four three-pointers and California University won its PSAC West opener by defeating Clarion, 71-42, at Hamer Hall. Dubyak was one of five Vulcans to score in double figures, with 14. Crystal Andrews had a game-high 17 points, Kayla Smith had 16 points and five steals, and Brooque Williams and Shaquetta Mance each chipped in with 10 points. The Golden Eagles, who committed 35 turnovers Wednesday in a loss to IUP, turned the ball over 36 times against the Vulcans (1-0, 14-2), who scored 40 points off those turnovers. California never trailed but needed to overcome some early woes, both with poor shooting and turnovers. The Vulcans led 16-6 before watching Clarion (0-2, 10-6) close the gap to four points. California ended the first half by outscoring Clarion 13-6 to lead at halftime by 11. Clarion (0-2, 10-6) did not have a double-figure scorer.
