W&J men hold off Geneva's rally
Matt Drakeley's jumper with 1:02 remaining Wednesday night gave Washington & Jefferson a 76-75 victory over Geneva Wednesday at Henry Memorial Center.
W&J (7-11) led 74-64 with 4:05 remaining until Geneva (10-9) went on an 11-0 run over the next three minutes. Justin Nardi, who led Geneva with 19 points, hit a pair of three-pointers to begin the run and Greg McDivitt, who had 17 points, finished it with a three-point play. Drakeley, who had 13 points, hit his jumper which stood up the rest of the way.
It was the first win for the Presidents over Geneva since the 1987-88 season.

Zac Northen also scored 14 points for Geneva.
California 77, Slippery Rock 64: Alioune Mbaye scored a game-high 29 points as California easily defeated Slippery Rock, 77-64, in a PSAC West Division contest at Morrow Field House.
Mbaye also added 10 rebounds in the win for Cal (4-0, 13-4).
He was one of three-players in double figures for the Vulcans as Julian Logan and Ron Banks each scored 12 points. California had only eight turnovers in the game.
Darnell Johnson led Slippery Rock (1-3, 3-15) with 20 points. Joseph Vines came of the bench and provided 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Bethany 82, Waynesburg 78: Bethany raced to a 49-25 lead by halftime but had to come from behind to defeat visiting Waynesburg, 82-78, in a wild PAC game at Hummel Field House.
Waynesburg stormed back and took a seven-point lead with 5:03 left on a layup by Jason Clark. Bethany, however, regained the lead with 3:19 remaining and Brody Jackson, who played all 40 minutes and scored a game-high 30 points, made two free throws with 17 seconds to play to seal the win.
Trinity graduate Joe Testa scored 14 points, Tyler Morando had 12 and Canon-McMillan product Aaron Ankrom added 11 for the Bison (7-1, 12-7), who lead the PAC.
Josh Parisi had 25 points and 11 rebounds and Tim Drakeley, a Trinity graduate, scored 26 points for the Yellow Jackets (1-7, 7-11). Clark finished with 11 points.
Women's results
California 83, Slippery Rock 57: California's Brooque Williams and Kayla Smith were double trouble for Slippery Rock. The duo each had a double-double and helped lift the Vulcans to an 83-57 PSAC West victory over The Rock at Morrow Field House.
Williams finished with 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Smith had 19 points and 10 boards for Cal (4-0, 17-2), ranked No. 1 in the latest Division II East Region rankings.
The Vulcans will play host to Indiana on Saturday. IUP enters the game ranked fifth in NCAA Division II. Indiana, however, was upset Wednesday night by Shippensburg, 88-75.
Five California players scored in double figures. Lindsay Johnson had 13 points, Shaquetta mance added 12 and Crystal Andrews chipped in 10 for the Vulcans.
KellyAnn Staudinger led Slippery Rock (1-3, 7-12) with 17 points. Julie Molloy added 11 in he loss.
Geneva 64, Washington & Jefferson 60: Geneva built an 11-point halftime lead behind the stellar play of Allyson Clarke then held on for a 64-60 non-conference win over Washington & Jefferson at Henry Memorial Center.
Clarke scored 15 points in the first half and finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds. She made two free throws with 23 seconds remaining after W&J closed the gap to 60-57.
With 10 seconds left, the Presidents (13-5) made it 62-60 on three-pointer by Kennan Killeen, who led W&J with 16 points and five assists.
Renee Rawding, though, made two free throws with four seconds left. Rawding finished with 17 points for Geneva (15-3) and Michawn Rich added 11 rebounds and nine points. Clarke, who played only 30 minutes, also blocked three shots.
Maggie Gibson had a game-high 14 rebounds for the Presidents, whose bench outscored Geneva's 19-3.
Bethany 77, Waynesburg 50: Kelly Goode scored 21 points and Bethany jumped out to a 13-point lead at the half on its way to a 77-50 win over visiting Waynesburg in a PAC game.
Waynesburg set a program-record with its 17th consecutive loss.
Stacey Goode added 13 points and 10 steals for the Bison (6-3, 10-8), who also received 16 points from Kaitlyn McCormick and 15 from Susannah Cartland.
Elisha Jones scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace the Yellow Jackets (0-9, 1-17). Michaelene Jones had 11 rebounds for Waynesburg, which had 37 turnovers and shot 32.3 percent from the field. Waynesburg High School graduate Jeanette Wonsettler had eight points and eight rebounds.
