Albert Varacallo scored a game-high 18 points and helped Washington & Jefferson fight off a furious second-half rally by Thomas More as the Presidents held on for a 70-65 victory in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game Wednesday at Henry Memorial Center.

The Presidents (6-4, 10-12) led 27-17 at halftime and forged a 21-point lead with 13:30 left. Thomas More (5-7, 9-14) used its full-court pressure defense to force 20 W&J turnovers, which helped the Saints pull to within three points on several occasions late in the game, the last time being 68-65 with four seconds left.

Matt Drakeley then secured the win for W&J by making two free throws. The Presidents were 30-for-40 at the free-throw line.
