Williams leads Vulcans past Raiders

Brooque Williams established a career-high with 35 points as California University pulled away in the second half to defeat Shippensburg, 86-66, in a PSAC West game at Hamer Hall Wednesday.

Williams, a sophomore guard, also grabbed 12 rebounds and had seven steals. She made 16 of 22 field goals.


Shippensburg, which scored the game's first five points, shot over 63 percent in the first half, but had more turnovers (20) than field goal attempts (19).

The Vulcans (6-3, 19-5) took a 7-5 lead before the Raiders (5-5, 17-8) tied the score on a basket by Michelle Metz. Williams put California back ahead with a free throw with 16:11 to play, and the Vulcans led for the rest of the game.

Three other players scored in double figures for the Vulcans. Lindsay Johnson scored 14, Crystal Andrews had 12 points and Amber Dubyak chipped in 10.

Wash & Jeff 54, Waynesburg 38: Emily Hays scored nine of her 11 points in the second half as Washington & Jefferson pulled away for a 54-38 victory over Waynesburg in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.

The win was the 22nd in a row for W&J over Waynesburg.

The Presidents (10-3, 18-6) shot only 22 percent from the field in the first half but still managed to lead, 20-16, at the break. Ten players scored for W&J. Kennan Killeen was the only player other than Hays in double figures with 10 points.
