Victoria Bozic, who had provided an address of 302 N. Main St., Midway, when she was hired, was suspended when officials decided at a special council meeting she had not been truthful about her updated address.

Bozic, who was hired Sept. 1, 2008, is required to live seven and one-half "air miles" from Washington County Courthouse by the end of her six-month employment probationary period. Her probationary period ends Sunday.

Attorney Lane Turturice interviewed several city workers who attended a meeting he had with Bozic Thursday morning. Bozic, witnesses said, claimed she was living at an address on Welsh Road, Chartiers Township. But when Turturice and police Chief James R. Blythe went to the home Friday, they found an elderly couple and their son were the home's only residents.

"She directly and deliberately falsified information to her superior, which constitutes insubordination," Turturice said.

On Friday, Bozic provided city officials a new address of 145 LeMoyne Ave., East Washington. Turturice did not have ample time to determine if she was residing there.

Bozic's suspension is with pay pending further investigation by Turturice and his preparation of formal charges.

Charges that she had not followed regulations and procedures were withdrawn.

Bozic did not attend the special meeting. When Bozic was hired, she became the first paid professional female firefighter in Washington County.

This person should have ripped the local government off of several million dollars. That would have been acceptable. But live to far from the court house? TERMINATE, TERMINATE, TERMINATE.

Address Mess : 2/28/2009
To Only Fair: Did you read the article? The problem was that this person was hired knowing that she needed to move to Washington. As you read on she LIED AND REALLY STOLE AN ADDRESS FROM AN ELDERLY COUPLE. If you were a fireman would you want a liar covering your back? I wouldn't.

whats the big deal! : 2/28/2009
congradulations mayor , concil the first female firefighter in the city, suspended for where she resides, we know police officers live outside this boundry, whats the difference? ordinances in the city are not regulated anyhow except code vilations, what was the vote for this political crap?

fedup

: 2/28/2009
yeah how unfair, when they pay for your training, equipment, salary, insurance, retirement... and then have the nerve to ask for honesty in return...

dialout

: 2/28/2009
Sounds like fraud to me. If this it determined to be true, she should be fired.

termination : 2/28/2009
She deserves to be fired. Right, wrong, or indifferent, she knew of the residency requirement when she took the job.

Certain jobs require you live with in city limits such as police officers, Firemen, etc..Fact is she should not have lied. We expect those in certain professions to be there in a minimal amount of time. I do believe it is a saftey issue for anyone who needs assistance

What address mess? : 3/1/2009
Seems like Chris can't tell the difference between and "address mess" and a lie. If this female employee will lie to the members of management that hired her, then she has no integrity and we don't need her as a city employee. I can almost assure you that after she completes her probationary period, she's going to be trouble!!! Please do the right thing and get rid of her now, when it wouldn't cost the city anything, otherwise wait until she goes on workers comp and our tax dollars will pay her the rest of her life. Act in the best interest of the city MR MAYOR, that's your job!!!

Ok : 3/2/2009
So my question is what was the meeting for anyway? And why was she being grilled on the living requirement when she still had several days to abide. Maybe council should report what really happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And what other charges were dropped and why? Don't fall victim to this crap......oh why was she passed up and had to fight for the job? yeah let's step into 2009 women do deserve to be there!!!!!!

R U Serious? : 3/2/2009
Come on now people, council never reports the whole story. What's her side? What position was she put in. Why did she do it? And how about the Lemoyne Ave. Seems to me there's more going on then what's being told here!!!!!!

: 3/2/2009
Was is right? No. But you don't kill a mouse with a cannon!!!! I'm behind her. Form the comments that Mr. Blackhurst had said on his interview WJPA, it sounds like they never aven wanted her there in the first place! A fire doesn't take exception, well, i'll bet you were surprised when she passed the academy! Go get em girl!

: 3/2/2009
Citizens and tax payers alike get lied to by politicans on a daily basis. The only difference is the witch hunt that came first and the digging trying to find something to get rid of her for. The Council and the individuals doing this wouldn't know a firefighter if it fell from the sky landed on their face and started to wiggle. This city has many great firefighters but council is not them..

: 3/2/2009
What living requirement? If you remember correctly when she was hired, Chief Brookman stated to the observer reporter in the 8/9/08 issue reported by terri johnson, that the living requirment for the city was waived two years ago! Who lied this time?

: 3/2/2009
Every other firefighter got six months to move to the city or within the limits and at that were never investigated. She got 5 months and 24 days. Fair? It seems to me she's missing the important body part that equals the full time given.

: 3/2/2009
Come on, stole an address? Don't you see what this assadine city is doing to this poor girl? Hang in there Ms. Bozic.

: 3/2/2009
There's a living requirement? I thought the chief said that it was no longer as of two years ago. My alot has changed in seven months!

address mess : 3/2/2009
From someone who personally knows Mrs. Bozic, this does not suprise me. She didnt pass the academy on her own, ask her and she'll tell you how she did. And she has been living in Midway all this time, and is stilly lying. She has no morals and should be terminated immediately.

address mess

: 3/2/2009
Addressing the individual who knows her personally. What doesnt surprise me is what a person like you would say. No morals and a liar... you would know. You love to blow smoke and point fingers at those who can do what you can NOT... I've known you for a very long time as well next time don't be scared to sign it..

YOU KNOW WHO :CU

Address Mess : 3/2/2009
Thios is absolutely ridiculous ! How about the other Firefighters who also don't live within Washington? Oh yeah, they are men. Why aren't they in trouble too ? The only reason this happened to Mrs. Bozic is because she is a woman. What happened to equality ? This should be dropped and she must be allowed back to work. The Chief should retire.

: 3/2/2009
Does it really matter at all where Vicki lives? And wasn't there other issues with her employment? And her husband's employment? Really now come' on, make a decision and stick with it. She was waiting for how long, the county adjusted to her, now she won't adjust for them? I know another Midway fireman who moved for his position with the county... is it really that hard to follow requirements?

ADDRESS? : 3/2/2009
Well looks like the witch hunt is on again! I just heard the other day at work the city is testing again... gotta make room somewhere, right? Most of the people in the that dept are cowards anyway, well except for 3 of them! The issue with the residency restrictions is that it is only for certian people! I know for a fact that a certian firefighter was living in "Claysburg" 6 months ago when he has been employed by city fire for over 2 years! He constatnly lied about his address but since he drank with the upper echelon of the "union" heads were turned! At first I did not support you, but now take them for all they are worth. You are just the next victim. You dont want to be there anyway... you have a family to worry about as i do. Do you really trust them with your life in a burning structure?????

COMMIN BACK 2 HAUNT U

address mess : 3/2/2009
What about that elderly couple ? Wonder is Mrs. Bozic even said "I'm sorry" to them. If not, she needs too.

ADDRESS MESS : 3/2/2009
I know a former WFB firefighter. He also was released before his probation period was up. When he refused to sign a resignation letter, the Captains told him "If we're in a fire, we don't have your back." This is Washington's finest. These guys give firefighters a bad name. Too bad Jeremy wasn't terminated, he may be alive today.
