Home-court advantage long overdue for W&J This article has been read 674 times. The first sign for Presidents' Athletic Conference executive director Joe Onderko that something out of the ordinary was happening Saturday night at Washington & Jefferson College came when he drove his car onto campus. He couldn't find a parking spot, which had never happened before on a weekend. Onderko had driven from Crestview Hills, Ky., where he attended the PAC women's tournament final earlier in the day. He didn't arrive in Washington until shortly after the 7:30 p.m. tip-off of the men's championship game between W&J and Grove City.
"This is incredible," Onderko said while taking his seat at the scorer's table. There were student sections for both schools. The W&J students wore black t-shirts and the Grove City group waved cardboard signs. They provided entertaining chants. They were loud. They were into every possession of Grove City's 60-58 victory. In other words, it was a terrific college basketball atmosphere, something W&J hasn't had in at least 20 years. "The fans were fabulous," W&J coach Glenn Gutierrez said.
