Just one week after leading Bethany College's basketball team to the NCAA Division III Tournament, Aaron Huffman resigned as head coach.

Huffman, a graduate of Waynesburg High School, coached the Bison for six seasons and led the Bison to five NCAA Division III Tournaments.

Huffman recently accepted a position in the financial aid office at West Liberty State College and will begin work there in two weeks.

"I have loved my time at Bethany, have many great memories that I will cherish, and will miss everyone very much," Huffman said in a statement Thursday.

"I will especially miss the special relationships I have built with former and present players and coaches, but the reality is that my family needs me right now."

Huffman led the Bison to a 17-11 record this season and a first-round loss to Capital in the NCAA Tournament. Huffman has a 112-53 record and Bethany won at least 17 games each season over the past five years.

Dr. Scott D. Miller, President of Bethany College, said a national search for a successor will being immediately.

"Bethany College has a distinguished basketball history," Dr. Miller said in a statement. "Coach Huffman has built a very good program and we're confident that our recent success will result in an attractive pool of highly qualified, experienced candidates."

Under Huffman, Bethany won three PAC titles and he was named Coach of the Year three times. Bethany set a school record with 24 victories in the 2004-05 season. Bethany also had a conference-record 29-game winning streak.

Huffman previously coached at West Liberty State College, where he was an assistant men's coach for one season and an assistant women's coach for three years.
