Woman dies in Greene wreck

A 25-year-old Waynesburg woman was killed Wednesday afternoon when her compact car collided with an Allegheny Power truck on Route 188 in Franklin Township, in front of the state Department of Transportation building.

Carrie Lynn Ross was traveling west toward Waynesburg at 2:47 p.m. when she crossed into the path of a truck driven by William Haines, 22, of Prosperity. The vehicles collided head-on, state police in Waynesburg said. Both vehicles traveled about 50 feet before stopping.

Ross was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple injuries by Greene County Coroner Greg Rohanna. She was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

Haines, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.

Assisting state police were Waynesburg Volunteer Fire Company, EMS Southwest and PennDOT.
