Ingested-balloon claim delays suspect's incarceration

A former Washington man's admission to Washington County Jail was delayed for a short time Friday morning after he claimed that he had balloons containing heroin in his body.

Eugene Davis, 37, was picked up Friday on a warrant stemming from a traffic stop more than a year ago on Interstate 79 near the Meadow Lands exit in South Strabane Township. After being arraigned on the charges before District Judge Jay Dutton, he was taken to jail on $10,000 bond.

But when Davis claimed he had drugs hidden in his body, police obtained a search warrant from Dutton. Davis was taken to Washington Hospital. After X-rays and a cavity search turned up no contraband, Davis was taken back to jail.
