Steelers re-sign linebacker Fox

The Steelers re-signed reserve linebacker Keyaron Fox on Monday, keeping a key member of their special teams unit.

Fox, who signed a two-year deal worth $1.8 million, saw action in 13 games with the Steelers last season.

A third-round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2004, Fox joined the Steelers last year as a free agent.

The 6-3, 235-pound Fox finished with 21 tackles on special teams. Only cornerback Anthony Madison, with 25, had more.

He is the sixth free agent to re-sign with the Steelers this offseason, joining offensive linemen Chris Kemoeatu and Trai Essex, linebackers Arnold Harrison and Andre Frazier, and cornerback Fernando Bryant.

Fox has played in 53 regular-season NFL games, with 73 tackles (52 solo) and one quarterback sack.

The Steelers also announced the completion of their preseason schedule.

Pittsburgh will travel to FedEx Field to play the Washington Redskins on Saturday, Aug. 22. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The Steelers conclude their 2009 preseason schedule on Thursday, Sept. 3, going to Carolina. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.

Both games will be televised locally on KDKA-TV and FSN Pittsburgh.

The NFL had previously announced the date and times for the Steelers' other two preseason contests: Thursday, Aug. 13 against Arizona at Heinz Field; and Saturday, Aug. 29, at Buffalo.

Odds and end zones

The Steelers hosted three prospects Monday as they finalize their rankings for the NFL Draft, which will be held April 25 and 26. Meeting with the coaching staff were California center Alex Mack, USC defensive lineman Fili Moala and LSU guard Herman Johnson. Mack and Moala are considered potential first-round picks and Johnson a second-rounder. ... The Steelers will hold the first of several voluntary workouts April 20. Minicamp is May 1-3.
