Girls softball

Brittany Rosenfeld's RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth broke a scoreless tie and gave Ringgold a 1-0 upset victory over Belle Vernon in a Section 4-AAA game.

Belle Vernon's Ashley Nichols and Ringgold's Emily Stefan were unscored upon through the first 51/2 innings. Ringgold's Stephanie Menhart led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, moved to second on an error and was sacrificed by Sara Lutz and scored on Rosenfeld's single.

Stefan struck out three and walked three to earn the victory for Ringgold (2-6, 2-7). Nichols struck out six and did not walk a batter for Belle Vernon (5-2, 6-3).

n Kristen Zelenka tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out 14 for Trinity in a 3-0, Section 4-AAAA win over Baldwin.

Trinity scored two runs in the third inning and one more in the sith. Ashley Morran had two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Jordan Shrontz had three hits and also drove in a run. Kilee Bonazza and Nicole Phillips each doubled for Trinity (5-1, 7-3).

n Geri Whitman pitched a two-hitter and hit a home run as Beth-Center defeated South Fayette 8-1 in a Section 2-AA game.

Beth-Center (4-0, 6-1) pounded out 10 hits, including three by Jessica Schinkovec. She also scored three runs and had two RBI. Ashley Weaver had two hits for the Bulldogs and Lauren Snyder doubled.

Anessa Gounder took the loss for South Fayette (2-6, 2-8).

n One day after beating Chartiers-Houston, Fort Cherry continued its hot play by pounding Monessen, 15-0, in four innings.

Lindsey Delprato pitched a no-hitter for Fort Cherry (5-2, 5-2). She struck out 10 and walked two. Delprato also tripled and drove in two runs. Sara McGraw tripled and drove in two runs and Harley Davidson doubled and had two RBI. Lindsay Relihan had three hits.

n Lauren Minor struck out 10 batters and Waynesburg eked out two runs to defeat West Mifflin, 2-0 in Section 4-AAA.

Alyson Johnson hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and Kaylie Barger, who had two hits, knocked in a run in the fifth. Neither team had an extra-base hit. The Raiders improved to 6-1, 6-1.

n Avella took advantage of six walks and 11 errors to defeat California, 11-5, in Section 1-A.

Bethanie Kern struck out seven and walked one to earn the win for the Eagles (5-3, 5-3). Marissa Midler had a double.

Ashley Tora, the losing pitcher, doubled and Christy Pankratz tripled and had two RBI for the Trojans (0-6, 0-7).

n Sam Coffield's double drove in pinch-runner Alaysha Browning in the eighth inning and McGuffey defeated Elizabeth Forward, 2-1, in a Section 4-AAA game.

Allison Kleinhans struck out 12 and scattered four hits for the Highlanders (4-3, 4-3). Torri Paterra homered for the Warriors (5-2, 6-2).

n Winning pitcher Rachel Burns' RBI-single with two out in the bottom of the eighth lifted West Greene to a 7-6 win over Frazier in a Section 2-A game.

Burns, who also tripled, struck out nine, while Samantha Milliken added a grand slam in a five-run fifth inning for the Pioneers (6-1, 6-1).

Losing pitcher Angie Kirchner doubled for Frazier (2-6, 4-7).

n Winning pitcher Miranda Shipley doubled and drove in five runs as Mapletown topped Jefferson-Morgan, 8-1, in a Section 2-A game.

Kaitlyn Novak added four hits and three runs, while Heather Shook, Erika Chory and Christa Grim each doubled for the Maples (5-3, 5-4).

Emily Cottle took the loss for J-M (2-6, 3-6).

n Jordan Jackson homered twice and drove in six runs as Washington ripped Burgettstown, 11-1, in a five-inning Section 2-AA game.

Ashley Sadler struck out 10, and Jessica Ketter had three hits for the Prexies (6-1, 9-3).

Chole Rommes took the loss for Burgettstown (4-2, 4-2).

Baseball

Geibel rallied with 10 unanswered runs to defeat Bentworth 10-8 in a Section 1-A game.

Bentworth (1-4, 2-4) scored seven runs in the third inning, but the Gators rallied by scoring four in the fourth and six in the fifth.

Taylor Young had three hits and Dalton Dercosky had three RBI for Bentworth. Clay Roman and Ty Bell also doubled for the Bearcats.

Bell was the losing pitcher. Ryan Craft came on in relief and got the win for Geibel (3-1, 4-2).

College softball

Washington & Jefferson junior Rebecca Nachreiner and sophomore Georgia Schumacher combined to limit Thiel to one earned run and only seven hits as the Presidents swept a Presidents' Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Tomcat Park.

Nachreiner limited the Tomcats (4-4, 8-15) to one hit through the first six innings as W&J won Game 1 by a 6-2 margin. Nachreiner struck out a career-high 14 batters during her 13th victory of the season.

Schumacher fired a two-hitter in the second game as the Presidents rolled to an 8-0 victory in five innings. Senior centerfielder Amanda Howard capped a six-run third with a two-run double.

n Waynebsurg swept a doubleheader from Chatham, winning the first 8-0 and the second, 15-5.

Autumn Minor tossed a two-hitter and struck out three in Game 1. Amanda Baughman went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs for the Yellow Jackets (4-3, 10-13).

A 12-run second inning paced Game 2's victory. Amber Pivik homored and drove in three and Samantha Melone doubled, scored twice and drove in three runs. Paige Dunlap took the loss for Chatham (1-9, 8-18).

College baseball

Waynesburg scored 19 runs over the seventh and eighth innings to turn a 6-3 deficit into a 22-9 victory over Franciscan in a non-conference game.

Wes White went 4-for-4 and drove in four, Brandon Dittmar homered and drove in four, and Scott Cree had three singles and four RBI for the Yellow Jackets (15-15).

Robert Marrow homered and drove in three for Franciscan (3-14-1). Reliver Nathan Cain was charged with 14 runs, 12 earned, in one inning of relief.
