A 19-year-old South Franklin Township man drowned while fishing in Enlow Creek Sunday.

Cody Christopher Reed of Old Plank Road was discovered submerged in the creek by a search team with West Finley Fire Department shortly after midnight Monday.

Reed had been fishing at the creek off Lower Enlow Creek Road in West Finley Township about 1:30 p.m. Sunday. When he did not return home, his family became concerned and began searching for him.

His car was found about one-quarter mile from West Finley Road, near where his body was recovered from the creek.

A dive team from East Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Company was called to help in the search. Its chief, John Hart, said Reed was found before the five-member team arrived on the scene. The team did enter the water to check for anything that might be suspicious.

Hart said the water in the creek did not appear to be higher than normal, and there was nothing at the scene to indicate any type of foul play.

Reed, who worked for SMS Millcraft, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:50 a.m. by Washington County Coroner Tim Warco. An autopsy determined he drowned.

The manner of Reed's death is being investigated by state police in Washington. Trooper Patrick Leary is asking anyone who may have been in the area of Ackley's Bridge to call him at 724-223-5200.

Also assisting at the scene were Richhill Township Fire Department and Washington Ambulance and Chair Service.
