The five people who died and seven others who were injured in a 9:45 a.m. crash at Route 136 and Brownlee Road in Somerset Township were identified.

All the dead were in the large transport van, which was occupied by nine residents and two workers from the Mental Health Association of Washington County group home at Bentleyville. Dead at the scene were staff members Sheryl Maiolini, 53, of Charleroi, who was driving the van, and Mary Watkins, 43, of Ellsworth, and residents John Maise, 61, Richard Paquet, 43, and Julie Hugus, 41.

Six other people were either flown by medical helicopter to Pittsburgh area hospitals or taken to local hospitals, where their injuries ranged from minor to severe, police said. Dana Guiley, 54, was in serious condition at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, a spokeswoman said. Others injured were identified as Duane Bell, 48, Norma Tellman, 52, Lawrence Corey, 54, Kim Sickels, 58, and Sandra Mrock, 51, but no additional information was available at press time.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Stephen Rouse, 44, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, was treated and released at Canonsburg General Hospital. He submitted to mandatory drug and alcohol testing as required by law, state police Trooper Frank Lewis said.
