Canonsburg Chamber to honor two at its annual Business Bash The Greater Canonsburg Chamber of Commerce will hold its 2008 Business Bash Thursday in the Grand Ballroom at Southpointe Golf Club, where it will honor Jamie Bails as Business Person of the Year and Jean Popp, who will receive the Community Service Award. This year's Mexican theme is "Spring into Cinco de Mayo," which will feature a silent auction, expo tables and Mexican fare. Each year, people are honored who reflect the spirit and goals of the chamber. Popp, Canonsburg Borough Councilwoman for the 1st Ward for 20 years, has dedicated her life to service to her community. A lifelong resident of Canonsburg, she has received numerous awards for her efforts, including recognition as Exceptional Councilwoman by Special Court Judges, Central Chartiers Valley Chamber of Commerce Exemplary Citizen, Business and Professional Woman of the Year as well as Certificates of Special Congressional Recognition and the Senatorial Commendation for Community Service. Popp has been a member and/or officer in the Canonsburg Business and Professional Women, Canonsburg Renaissance Group, Jefferson Historical Society, Canonsburg Bicentennial Committee, Washington County Cultural Trust and Washington County Community Youth Center. She has volunteered her skills for many projects including Canonsburg Hospital, Friends of the Canonsburg Park, Friends of the Greater Canonsburg Library, Chartiers Creek Watershed Committee and Canon-McMillan School District.
Besides her dedication and long tenure on Canonsburg Council, Popp has donated many hours to developing and expanding the Summer Concerts in the Park, which she founded, personally raising funds to keep this free, popular program vibrant. She also is responsible for restoring the Girl Scout House that houses the Washington County Youth Center. She is currently president. All of her endeavors are aimed at the betterment of the cultural, civic and educational life in her community. A graduate of Canonsburg High School, Mrs. Popp was married to Zolton J. Popp in 1951. The couple have four children, eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Jamie Bails is currently an Owner and Senior Vice President at Paradigm Business Solutions Inc., an ISH company specializing in software consulting and business process reengineering. Prior to assuming this role, she was the owner and president of Bails and Associates Inc., a Human Resources Software Consulting firm. Bails has worked in many roles during her career, including a term as an implementation manager and application consultant for Lawson Software from 1994 to 1997. Bails and Associates prospered because of her commitment to a variety of roles including sales, implementation manager, human resources and staffing, accounting and all aspects of operations management.
She is the mother of two children, James, 4, and Diana, 3. She was raised in Canonsburg, graduating from Canon-McMillan High School in 1986 and continues to own property and anchor businesses in the Canonsburg area. She is a graduate of Chatham University with a bachelor of arts degree in 1989 and an MBA in 2003. In 2001, she received the Cornerstone Award acknowledging her as a distinguished alumna from Chatham University. In 2001 and 2002, she received the distinguished Working Woman Entrepreneurial Excellence Award for Best Employer. She also has many community service affiliations. Bails also owns Juliandra Travel, a full-service travel agency specializing in personal as well as corporate travel. Her newest business endeavor involves the formation of a new entity, Bails Inc., a business management firm specializing in forming and incubating small local businesses including a physical therapy clinic, a car detailing shop, a driving range and a project management consulting firm.
