Ringgold director accused of sexual assault

A Ringgold School District director is facing trial in Washington County Court in a sexual assault case that had been in limbo since 2007.

The trial for Charles H. Smith Jr., 53, of New Eagle, is scheduled for June 2 before Judge John DiSalle, court record show.

State police accuse Smith of forcing a female employee into having sex with him when she went to his mobile home about 7 p.m. July 7, 2007, to retrieve paperwork.

Smith is charged with sexual assault and indecent assault and is free on $2,500 unsecured bond set Dec. 3 by District Judge Mark Wilson.
