Man pleads to charges in Sept. police pursuit

A Scenery Hill man pleaded guilty Wednesday to leading North Strabane Township police on an 11-mile chase into Somerset Township while he was intoxicated.

Drew Divelbliss, 19, of 697 Spring Valley Road, pleaded guilty to a first driving under the influence offense, testing positive for marijuana, possession of marijuana and fleeing/eluding police before Washington County Judge Janet Moschetta Bell.

He was sentenced to 7 to 18 months in jail and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine. Divelbliss must also undergo drug and alcohol evaluation and treatment and will have his driver's license suspended.

On Sept. 25, township police Officer Matt Mancini was monitoring traffic for a Click It or Ticket detail on South Central Avenue at Route 519 when he saw Divelbliss go through a stop sign.

Mancini attempted to pull over Divelbliss, who started to slow down and then sped off. Divelbliss was traveling at speeds ranging from 60 to 75 mph in a 45 mph zone, passing vehicles.

He went through a stop sign on Route 519 at Brownlee Road, passing more vehicles. Divelbliss continued across Route 136 to Carlton Road, where he turned off his headlights. After a few minutes, he turned them back on. He pulled into the Carlton Motel, where he was taken into custody.

The pursuit covered 11 miles, lasting about 10 minutes.

Police found a plastic bag containing a large amount of suspected marijuana and a marijuana cigarette on the floor. Another bag of marijuana was in the pocket of the driver's side door. He had another bag in his pocket.
