CANONSBURG

Assault charge: Robert M. Workman, 37, of 221 Hutchinson Ave., Canonsburg, was charged with simple assault and harassment, Canonsburg police said. Police said Workman slapped Sheila Mawhinney in the face, choked her and pushed her onto a porch railing during an argument Friday. He was arraigned by District Judge Gary Havelka and placed in Washington County Jail on $2,500 bond.

CECIL TOWNSHIP

Bar fight: Cecil police responded to a fight at Jay's Sports Bar in Southpointe about 1:30 a.m. Sunday; however, the two people involved in the fight left the bar by the time police arrived. Peters Township police were called by Cecil to assist and were given a description of a vehicle. They spotted it while en route and pulled over Brandon M. Delre, 21, of 232 Franklin Drive, Upper St. Clair. Peters police plan to charge him with drunken driving, pending the results of a blood-alcohol test.


Assault charge: Cheryl Koteles, 49, of 112 Profio Road, McDonald, was charged Monday with simple assault after Cecil police said Koteles struck her daughter, causing swelling to her lip.

Tools stolen: For the second time in a week, tools were stolen from the Fairmont Supply construction site at Southpointe II. A compressor and saw worth about $2,300 is owned by Jackal Development of Irwin, Westmoreland County. A gang box used to store equipment was damaged between 3 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Monday, police said.

Tailgate stolen: A dark-blue tailgate was stolen between 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday from a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck parked on Cherryhill Drive. Cecil Township police said the truck, owned by Kenneth Garner, was parked outside his home.

CHARTIERS TOWNSHIP

Car in creek: Kayla Ruffalo, 17, of North Strabane Township, escaped serious injury when she lost control of her sport utility vehicle on Valley Road and it rolled into a creek at 8:42 p.m. Saturday, township police said. The SUV hydroplaned, landed in the creek on its roof and became submerged in the water. The driver got out of the vehicle without assistance and was taken by ambulance to Canonsburg General Hospital with a cut on her hand.

DUI charge: Duane Behanna II, 36, of 417 McKee Road, Buffalo Township, was charged with drunken driving following a crash on West Pike Street shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday. Police said Behanna's vehicle crossed the center line and crashed into the side of a car driven by Greg Wood of Houston before going off the road. Behanna's blood-alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit, police said.

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP

Lawn mower stolen: A lawn mower was stolen over the weekend from a residence at 21 Genio Lane in Independence Township, state police said.

McDONALD

Multiple charges filed: Ronald Lee Elias Jr., 29, of 307 Valley St., McDonald, faces several charges after he allegedly took a woman's car May 10 and left it abandoned. Elias was charged with recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, criminal mischief, robbery of a motor vehicle, robbery by force, theft, loitering disorderly conduct and harassment and arraigned Sunday by District Judge Gary Havelka.

McDonald police said Elias was getting a ride home from Erica Andrews when he allegedly struck her, took the keys out of the ignition and pulled her out of the car. The vehicle was found three hours later in a gravel lot in Robinson Township. He also was arraigned on a protection-from-abuse violation. Elias could not post bond and was taken to Washington County jail.

PETERS TOWNSHIP

One injured: A North Strabane Township man was injured when two cars collided at East McMurray Road and the trafficway of Donaldsons Crossroads shopping center at 2:35 p.m. Sunday, township police said.

Ethan Coyle, 17, of 454 McClelland Road, Canonsburg, was treated at Canonsburg General Hospital and released, said a hospital spokeswoman.

He was the driver of one car while Jeanne Gregg, 73, of 107 Frosty Valley Road, McMurray, was the other driver. Police said Gregg was not injured.

Arrest pending: Township police said driving under the influence of alcohol charges are pending against an East Washington man following a one-vehicle accident at 3:41 a.m. Sunday.

Matthew Hurley, 22, of 418 E. Beau St., was driving in the 100 block of Marion Drive when his car struck a sport utility vehicle parked on the street in front of 127 Marion Drive, police said. The SUV is owned by John Williams, 4965 Glenview St., Schnecksville, police said.

Pending results of a blood test, police said Hurley will be charged.

Police said Hurley was transported to Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, for an injury. However, a hospital spokeswoman said there is no record of medical treatment.

One injured: Thomas Shields IV, 17, of 205 Hardwood Drive, Venetia, was injured in a one-vehicle accident at 3:20 p.m. Thursday, township police said. He was treated at Canonsburg General Hospital and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Shields was a passenger in a sport utility vehicle driven by Billy Narey, 16, of 124 Hardwood Drive, Venetia, that was traveling in the 100 block of Johnston Road, police said.

Narey was not injured when the SUV crossed the center line before rolling onto its roof.

Burglary reported: The lock was damaged and Sugar Run Bakery was entered before 6:44 a.m. Saturday, township police said.

Stolen from the bakery on Sugar Run Road near the Venetia post office was a safe containing cash.

Money stolen: After reviewing numerous register tapes, the area manager of Pizza Hut determined about $700 in cash was missing from the store at 453 Valley Brook Road, police said.

The theft was reported at 10:54 a.m. Thursday.

SOUTH FAYETTE TOWNSHIP

Two cited: Elizabeth Taddeo, 21, of 104 Olde Orchard Drive, Bridgeville, was charged with drunken driving and a passenger was charged with public intoxication early Sunday after a one-vehicle accident near their home.

Police said the car slid from the intersection of Fairview and Olde Orchard drives shortly after 3 a.m., damaging bushes and the grassy area at the entrance of the development, and became mired in mud. Taddeo's blood was drawn at St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon. She also was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

A passenger, Joseph Slavik, 26, also of 104 Olde Orchard Drive, was sitting in mud outside the car and he refused to move to the curb, police said, so he was cited.

SOUTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP

Theft attempt: South Strabane police said two white men walked into the Heart's in the Attic store, 74 Oak Springs Road, and one of the men attempted to steal from the cash register Thursday afternoon. The clerk asked the would-be thief what he was doing, and the two men soon left in a small pickup truck, police said.

WASHINGTON

PFA charge: Lafabian Jones of 510 Jefferson Ave., Washington, was charged with violating a protection-from-abuse order Sunday morning, Washington police said. Police said Jones hit Pamela Alakson in the head twice and poked her. Jones was arraigned Sunday by District Judge Gary Havelka and placed in Washington County Jail on a $1,500 bond.

Bike stolen: Rolf Wagner of 380 E. Maiden St. reported Friday that his bike was stolen overnight.

Car parts stolen: Melinda Poland of 133 W. Walnut St. reported to police Friday that the turnlight assembly from a 1997 Nissan and the headlight assembly from a 1996 Grand Prix were stolen about 3:40 p.m.

Criminal trespass charge: Two homeless people were cited for being inside a vacant home at 580 Jefferson Ave. about 5 p.m. Friday. Dennis Haugh, 35, and Kathy Amon, 46, were cited with criminal trespass after a neighbor complained to police about them being in the home.

Haugh was cited for trespass again along with another homeless woman, Susan Bowers, 47, for being in the vacant home about 8 p.m. Sunday.

Cell phone, keys stolen: Thelma Booker was working at a funeral at The Lord's Church, 123 N. Lincoln St., Saturday and left her cell phone and keys on a window sill. When she returned to pick them up about 4:15 p.m., they were gone.

License plate theft: Kathy Wolfe of 1340 Jefferson Ave. had her vehicle parked in the alley behind her home, and the license plate was stolen Sunday about 2:30 p.m.

Car stolen: Irene Hodgson of 1011 Park Ave. reported her blue Dodge Intrepid stolen from Prospect Avenue after 7 p.m. Saturday.
