After winning the first NCAA tournament match in school history Friday over Holy Family, the sixth-ranked California University women's tennis team routed Bryant 5-0 Saturday at Cal's Roadman Park.
It was the 14th-straight victory and 10th-consecutive shutout (23rd of the season) for California (27-1), which advances to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16. The Vulcans travel to Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla., for a third-round match against South Carolina-Upstate, which is ranked No. 9 in the country.
California started off strong, sweeping all three doubles matches. The first doubles pairing of Inga Chilingaryan and Yumi Matsuto defeated Sacha Solomon and Annette Jervasi 8-5.

It only took two singles matches for Cal to complete the victory. On Court Five, Reiswich defeated Lauren Mullen 6-0, 6-1 while on Court Six Olga Alekseeva defeated Heather Fedesco 6-0, 6-0.
W&J falls in final
For the second-straight year, Washington & Jefferson and Thomas More met in the championship game of the Presidents' Athletic Conference softball tournament. This time, the Saints defeated the Presidents, 3-1, to claim their first conference tournament title.
The Saints (28-11) scored in the top of the first inning in the championship game as Sommer Case scored a run on a sacrifice fly.
Stephanie Stadtmiller singled and scored on an error in the third inning to up the lead to 2-0, but the Presidents narrowed the gap to 2-1 in the fourth inning. Junior leftfielder Ally Stasik singled and scored one batter later on Schultz's triple.
W&J (19-14) advanced to the championship game by defeating top-seeded Westminster, 5-0, earlier in the day. The Presidents will now await word on a possible ECAC Tournament bid on Monday.
In the victory over the Lady Titans, sophomore pitcher Rebecca Nachreiner continued her strong performance by limiting WC to seven hits in the complete game shutout.
W&J beats Thomas More twice
Four Washington & Jefferson pitchers combined to hold Thomas More to five hits as the Presidents swept the Saints in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader to claim their third consecutive regular-season league title Saturday at Ross Memorial Park.
W&J edged the Saints, 3-2, in Game 1 then posted a 6-2 victory in the nightcap.
The Presidents (28-8, 15-2 PAC) will host the PAC Tournament, which begins Thursday at Ross Memorial Park. Thomas More will be the No. 2 seed.
W&J grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one when junior centerfielder Justin Benson led off with a triple and scored on senior first baseman Sam Mann's sacrifice fly.
The Saints (13-4, 23-9) were held off the scoreboard until the top of the sixth as senior first baseman Brad Ketterer doubled home a pair of runs to give TMC a 2-1 advantage.
The Presidents rallied with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Senior second baseman Chris Varacallo tied the game with a two-strike, two-out RBI single and senior third baseman Shaun Pfeil followed with a run-scoring single which proved to be the game winner.
In Game 2, W&J scored four runs in the fourth for a 4-0 lead. Senior leftfielder Ron Mitko and junior rightfielder Matt Pellis brought home the first two runs on singles, while sophomore catcher Sean Boone's squeeze bunt added the third. Pellis also scored on a wild pitch.
Scholastic baseball
Tim Rush's two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Avella a crucial 8-7 victory in Section 2-A over Cornell. The two teams, which have split the season series, will meet Monday with the third and final playoff spot of the section on the line .
Avella (7-6, 8-9) led 4-0 before Cornell scored four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 7-5 lead. But Sam Beton hit an RBI-double in the seventh before Rush's single gave Avella the victory.
Steve Campbell pitched the last 11/3 innings to pick up the win for Avella. Chris Khouri also homered.
n Nick Russell belted a two-run homer in the first inning and Josh Snatchko pitched a complete game five-hitter to lead Fort Cherry past Washington, 3-2, in a Section 2-AA game.
Snatchko struck out 11 and walked just one batter for the Rangers (4-6, 5-8), who scored all three runs in the first.
Chad Smith pitched five innings and took the loss for Washington (6-4, 6-7), which beat Fort Cherry 12-2 on Friday.
n Chartiers-Houston split a Section 2-A doubleheader with Our Lady of Sacred Heart, dropping the opening game 5-1 before claiming a 12-10 decision in the second game.
Greg Harkins and Andy Verpue each doubled for OLSH and Mike Cercone picked up the complete-game win in the opener. Andy Petras had two doubles and Jason Paris also doubled for the Bucs.
Kyle Thomas pitched 61/3 innings for the win in the nightcap and A.J. Kerr worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to earn the save for C-H (8-4, 11-4). Petras and Derek McIlvaine each doubled and Paris tripled for the Bucs. Cercone had a triple and Christiansen added a homer for OLSH (10-2, 13-3).
Scholastic softball
Geri Whitman won her fifth game of the week as Beth-Center defeated Washington 6-3 in Section 2-AA. It was the first section loss for Washington (13-1, 17-2).
Whitman struck out 12 and walked seven. Six different players drove in runs for Beth-Center (10-4, 12-5). Jessica Schinkovec, Tonya Carroll and Loren Snyder each doubled in the win.
Amanda Baughman took the loss for the Prexies. Jenna Phillips tripled for Washington.
n Shaylee Ianno pitched a no-hitter for Peters Township in a 4-0 win over Bethel Park in Section 4-AAAA.
Ianno struck out 13 batters and walked only one. She also doubled. Anna Coletti tripled and had two RBI for the Indians (9-3, 11-4). Bethel park dropped to 4-6, 5-8.
n Jefferson-Morgan rallied from a 2-1 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the third inning and clinched a playoff spot out of Section 2-A with a 7-5 win over Frazier.
Erin Barbetta, who had two hits, and Sarah Olson each doubled for the Rockets (7-5, 8-6). Ashley Phillips and Lindsay Olson each added two hits and Emily Cottle struck out eight for the win.
Frazier, which scored two runs in the seventh inning, fell to 5-9 in the section and 8-9 overall.
n Chartiers-Houston pitcher Michelle Greenawalt limited California to two hits over 12 innings as the Bucs swept a doubleheader from the Trojans by scores of 10-0 and 6-0 in Section 1-A.
Greenawalt pitched a no-hitter and had a two-run double in the opener. Kaitlyn Rupprecht had two doubles and two RBI while Jaci Timko and Brittany Jones each tripled as the Bucs won in five innings.
Greenawalt struck out 11 and added two doubles in the second game and Devon Strimel had a double and two RBI for C-H (14-0, 17-0), the only undefeated WPIAL Class A team. Chrissy Pankratz had both hits - a double and a triple - for California (5-8, 6-10).
Pony baseball
Albert's Meats had six doubles to defeat Chambers Insurance 11-4 in Washington Pony action.
Tyler Bedillion, Brandon Lesko, Travis Huff, Jim Janovich, Jamaar Dates and Montana Logar each had a double for Albert's Meats (2-1). Don Carroll doubled for Chambers Insurance (1-3).
n Jim Janovich hit a solo home run to lead Albert's Meats to a 17-9 victory over Fairmont Supply in the late Friday game in Washington Pony League. Lesko, Brent Graham and Connor Semple each had three singles for Albert's Meats.
Dom Raggi tripled and drove in three runs for Fairmont Supply (1-3).
n Cory Iams homered while Brandon Robertson, James Evans and Travis Lohr each doubled for Elks Lodge in an 8-3 win over Chunko Law Firm in a Washington Pony game.
Sam Aquilino was the winning pitcher and struck out six for Elks (5-0). Tyler Roy was the losing pitcher for Chunko (3-2).
Brad Martin, Cameron Banasick and Ryan Sicchitano each doubled for Chunko.
