Buffalo Creek Watershed Association is searching for people who attended dedication ceremonies of Dutch Fork Lake 50 years ago.

The association plans to celebrate the anniversary of the lake's opening at 1 p.m. June 14 in the Audia Pavilion at McGuffey Park, just outside of Claysville, off Route 231.

"We want to extend an invitation to these people and include their names in our program," said Donna Riggle, association member. "I'm sure these folks have great stories to add to our group's collection of memories of Dutch Fork Lake.

"It would be good to hear their thoughts now that the state is providing $4 million to the Fish and Boat Commission for the lake's restoration."

Dutch Fork Lake was used by families on outings, sportsmen and nature enthusiasts until the lake was drained in 2004 due to damage to the spillway by the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan.

Local representatives and state Fish and Boat Commissioner Tom Shetterly will speak briefly at the June 14 observance, which is also Flag Day. A patriotic program will follow. Local church groups will serve an anniversary cake. Food and soda will be available for purchase. The association asks that participants bring their own lawn chairs.
