Police beat

BLAINE TOWNSHIP

Faces charges: Jason R. Hoffman, 21, of Taylorstown, was charged by state police with criminal mischief and criminal trespass after allegedly driving his vehicle through the grass at Taylorstown Park, Blaine, when it was closed for the night. He was seen by township workers, police said.

CANONSBURG


Water main break: Canonsburg police reported that a water main break on Arlington Avenue flooded two homes early Monday.

Police said water service was shut off at both 214 Arlington Ave. and 1114 First St. after the break, and Canonsburg Volunteer Fire Department pumped water out of the homes.

Abduction reported: Amy Thompson, address unavailable, told police Sunday that she had been abducted and robbed after leaving the Family Dollar store in Canonsburg Friday afternoon.

Thompson told police that she had just gotten into her vehicle when two white men jumped into the car, demanding money.

After she gave them $60, she said the men demanded that she drive them to Washington, police said. Thompson said she did not know what street she drove them to, only that it was off Jefferson Avenue. She said she also drove them to another location before the pair fled the car, according to a police report.

Thompson described one of the men as being in his 40s with dark hair and a beard. She told police he was clutching an ice pick. The other man was described as being in his 30s with short, blond hair.

Police said Thompson was unable to provide any other details.

Girls reported missing: Anthony Johnson of 222 E. Pitt St. told police Sunday that two of his daughters were missing and last seen two weeks ago.

He said the girls, Anastasia and Antonia Johnson, were likely in California Borough.

Anastasia Johnson, 15, is described as a black female who weighs 120 pounds. Antonia Johnson, 14, was described as a black female who weighs 130 pounds.

CANTON TOWNSHIP

Safe stolen: Angela Kisko of 1194 Findlay St., Canton, told state police Sunday that a burglar entered an open window at her home and stole her safe.

Underage drinking: Jonathan Tyler Houston, no age listed, of Prosperity, was cited for underage drinking on Jefferson Avenue at 1:35 a.m. Saturday, state police said.

CENTER TOWNSHIP

Mower stolen: Gary Reese of Meadow Lands told state police in Waynesburg that a Swisher 44-inch mower with a 101/2 horsepower engine was stolen Thursday when a burglar broke into a locked barn on property he owns on Turkey Hollow Road, Center.

CENTERVILLE

Jailed for threats: Wesley Scott Rager of Elizabeth was arrested Sunday night after he allegedly threatened to shoot his wife, Tracy Lynn Rager, and their two children after an argument at the Malden Drive-In, 3800 Old National Pike, Centerville, state police said. He also allegedly grabbed her arm and stepped on her foot.

He was arraigned before District Judge Valarie Costanzo on charges of terroristic threats and harassment and placed in Washington County Jail on $2,500 bond.

ELLSWORTH

Motorcylist injured: John G. Little III, 35, of Ellsworth, suffered minor injuries Sunday evening when a vehicle driven by Nathan Smichnick, 18, of Belle Vernon, pulled from Walnut Street onto Route 917, Ellsworth, into the path of Little's motorcycle. Smichnick was charged with a stop sign violation. Little was taken by ambulance to Washington Hospital with an ankle injury.

HANOVER TOWNSHIP

Jailed in assault: Richard Tatkus, 46, of McKeesport, was arrested Saturday night in the parking lot of P-G Pavilion after he allegedly punched Adam Toth in the face, breaking his nose, Hanover police stated in a criminal complaint.

Tatkus was arraigned before District Judge Valarie Costanzo on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and disorderly conduct. He was placed in Washington County Jail on $5,000 bond.

McDONALD

Paintballs fired at van: Nathan D. Hamilton of 315 Kay St. told McDonald police Saturday that paintballs were shot at the rear window of his van. An envelope containing the owner's card, insurance card and $30 was stolen.

NORTH BETHLEHEM TOWNSHIP

Single-car crash: A motorist was injured Sunday night when he crashed his car on Little Daniels Run Road in North Bethlehem Township while trying to avoid a deer in the roadway, state police said.

A car driven by Rylie A. Dunn, 18, of Houston, rolled onto its roof when Dunn swerved to miss the deer at 9:20 p.m. and was taken to Washington Hospital with unspecified injuries, police said.

NORTH FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP

Faces assault charge: Justin Eckert, 31, of 27 Scenic Drive, North Franklin, faces charges of simple assault and criminal mischief in connection with a confrontation with Andrea Miller, 24, 27 Scenic, at their home Sunday.

Reportedly, Miller threw Eckert's belongings onto the driveway after a dispute, and Eckert told Miller that he would assault her if they were on the drive when he came home. She moved the items to the porch, police said.

When he came home, police said, he threw a roof shingle board, hitting her in the face, and dumped a bottle of beer on her and her 1-year-old daughter. He was gone when police arrived. Charges will be sent by summons.

Money stolen: Pat Doman of 273 Festival Road told North Franklin police Monday that her checking account was accessed and $66.50 stolen.

Money stolen: Money was stolen from massage chairs at the entrances to Washington Crown Center Friday, North Franklin police said. The next day, a vendor who has photo machines in the mall reported machines were broken into and money stolen.

Pills stolen: Brandy Anderson of South Strabane Township told North Franklin police Sunday that 30 Percocet pills were stolen from her purse while she was working at Presbyterian Medical Center.

NORTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP

Break-in attempt: North Strabane police said an attempt was made Saturday to break into the home of Kristie Lopez, 133 Wylie Ave. The intruder kicked in the basement door.

Trespass charge: Zachary A. Cholak, 21, of 141 Chesnic Drive, North Strabane, was charged Friday with criminal trespass by North Strabane police after he allegedly drove his vehicle onto property owned by George Bercosky at 915 S. Central Ave. A loaded gun was found in his car, police said.

PETERS TOWNSHIP

Shed damaged: A door on a shed at McMurray Elementary School near the baseball field was damaged and a lawn tractor driven away, township police said. The tractor, which was not damaged, was found about 100 feet away next to a hillside. The incident was reported at 10:02 a.m. Sunday.

One injured: A McMurray woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 3:33 p.m. Friday, township police said. The accident occurred on Waterdam Road at Canterbury Lane.

Police said Janice Dellovade, 62, of Robinhood Lane, was on Waterdam Road attempting to make a left turn onto Canterbury Lane when her car was struck from behind by a pickup truck driven by Steven Sucevich, 20, of Green Valley Road, Eighty Four.

Sucevich was not injured. Police said Dellovade was taken to Canonsburg General Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman said there was no record of treatment.

ROBINSON TOWNSHIP

DUI charge: William Openbrier Jr., 49, of 213 Washington Ave., Midway, faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, criminal mischief, failure to drive at a safe speed and careless driving stemming from a crash Sunday afternoon in the 9400 block of Noblestown Road, Robinson, McDonald police said.

According to police, Openbrier's vehicle hit a guardrail, went through the yard at 9406 Noblestown, hit some wooden posts and stopped near a creek. An empty bottle of Southern Comfort was found inside the vehicle, police said.

SOUTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP

Drug charges: Carra Lynn Thomas, 19, of 23 Pacers Ridge Drive, North Strabane Township, was charged Saturday night by South Strabane police with possessing a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and allowing someone to drive her vehicle without a license following a traffic stop on Locust Avenue at Orchard Terrace.

Police said she had allowed Juan Christopher Watson to drive the vehicle, whose inspection and emission stickers had expired.

Driver faces charge: Matthew Miklic, 54, of 111-A Armstrong Drive, Canton Township, was charged by South Strabane police with leaving the scene of an accident Sunday after his vehicle hit guardrails at 1338 E. Beau St. His vehicle was found off Prall Road, police said.

Careless driving: Gene Luff, 22, of 12 North St., Atlasburg, will be charged with careless driving after hitting the rear of a car driven by Jane Graham, 69, of Cape Coral, Fla., on Murtland Avenue north near Oak Spring Road, Saturday afternoon. A witness told police Luff was not paying attention and had been driving at a high speed prior to the crash. Graham was taken to Washington Hospital.

Theft charges: Marquita Nicole Kimbrew, 25, of 100 Highland Ave., Washington, and Georgetta V. Ledbetter, 22, of 464 E. Hallam Ave., Washington, were charged by South Strabane police with retail theft and criminal conspiracy for allegedly stealing 28 items valued at $227 from Wal-Mart, Trinity Point, Friday morning.

Cashier bilked: A quick-change artist bilked the cashier at Ponderosa, Trinity Point, out of more than $100 Sunday, South Strabane police said. A dark-skinned black man in his 50s, about 6 feet tall with a medium build and wearing a black hat, black jeans and short-sleeved white shirt repeatedly gave the cashier money to pay for an order of wings and asked for change.

WASHINGTON

Disorderly charge: William G. Reese, 41, of Washington, was charged Saturday with disorderly conduct after allegedly fighting with Deanna Hindman and yelling at Washington police at 2841/2 N. Franklin St.

Car stolen: Edward Kuntz of 98 Grove Road, Prosperity, told Washington police early Saturday that his blue 1996 Oldsmobile with license GXL-6408 was stolen from near the intersection of Wheeling and South Main streets. Inside the car were his wallet with credit cards and a portable fire radio.

Disorderly charge: George Molinaro of 685 Fayette St. was charged with disorderly conduct after allegedly screaming obscenities at Washington police and others in the 600 block of Fayette Saturday.

Theft attempt: Washington police reported two men siphoned gasoline from a vehicle in the 300 block of Third Street before a homeowner scared them away early Monday. Police said the men fled, leaving behind a hose and plastic container.

Drug charge: Marius Chatman, 18, of 850 Broad Street, Washington, will be charged with possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct after a traffic stop on Ewing Street Saturday night, Washington police said.
