The surveyor scam

This article has been read 431 times.

Summer weather brings scam artists outdoors, and as always they are looking for ways to rob you. The latest scheme has been tried in Butler and Westmoreland counties and involves a phony surveyor.

It works this way: A man comes to the door and says there is need to review boundary lines. He asks the homeowner to accompany him outside and show him where the property limits are.

Meanwhile, an accomplice slips into the house and helps himself to whatever he can find. Police say the culprits favor jewelry or prescription drugs but are just as happy to find cash.

As your mother always told you, it's wise to be wary of strangers. Don't let someone you don't know into your house and don't follow someone outside, especially if there's no one else at home.
