PennDOT plans meeting on Route 188 bridge replacement project
The state Department of Transportation will hold an open house meeting to present plans for its replacement from 5 to 7 p.m. July 10 at the Greene County PennDOT maintenance office on Route 188.
PennDOT, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, is currently developing the final design plans for the new bridge.
The old bridge was constructed in about 1910 and has been on the list of bridges to be replaced on the road for about 10 years.

The new bridge will be built next to the existing structure. Traffic will continue to the use the old bridge while the new one is being built, Barber said. Work on the new bridge is expected to be completed by the end of 2009, he said.
During the 1990s, PennDOT replaced five bridges on Route 188 between Waynesburg and Jefferson. All five bridges had been constructed between 1919 and 1926 and were in poor condition.
The last bridge to be completed on the road, a bridge crossing the railroad near Stony Point, was finished in August 2000.
Other bridges that were replaced then included the first two bridges east of the Interstate 79 overpass, both crossing Ten Mile Creek; the bridge crossing Braden Creek and Bells Bridge, crossing Ten Mile Creek just west of Jefferson.
PennDOT also is expected to solicit bids in January for another bridge on Route 188, referred to as the Children's Home Bridge, over Ruff Creek in Morgan Township.
That bridge, near the intersection of Prison Road, was restricted to one lane in February.
The meeting on the latest project will be in an open house format with PennDOT officials and project team members on hand to answer questions and address concerns.
