Two Washington County and two Greene County residents have been named recipients of the 2009 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards for Upstate New York, Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Ann Dugan of Southpointe, who advocates for entrepreneurs in the region as executive director of the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh; Amy Hancock of McMurray, president and owner of AdvantageCare Rehabilitation Inc., which provides contract therapy to the geriatric market; Scott Kiger of Kirby, president of SDI LLC, which provides proprietary technology for mine shaft drilling; and Doug Galbraith, Holbrook, CEO of Waynesburg's Separation Design Group, a leading research and development lab focused on creating technologies that help to advance energy efficiencies. The four local residents were among only 21 finalists from three states.

Peggy Northrop, a Washington native and the U.S. editor-in-chief of Reader's Digest magazine, has been named global editor-in-chief and will assume the additional responsibilities for directing the brand's 50 international editions as well as content for all Reader's Digest platforms, print and digital. Northrop recently accepted the National Magazine Award for General Excellence after guiding the magazine through a major redesign and modernization. She will be responsible for editorial for all 50 editions, which are printed in 21 languages and sold in more than 60 countries. The publication reaches 70 million readers, and more than 40 million branded books, music, and videos are sold annually.

Kimberly Gavran of Try-Again Homes Inc., Washington, has received the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network's award for County Independent Living Professional. The honor was presented at the network's 17th annual convention in Lancaster last week.
