Another tragic tale

This article has been read 421 times.

Not even a few hours had passed after the death of pop singer Michael Jackson before the comparisons to another revered figure emerged: Elvis Presley.

Both had become enormous influences on popular music and culture as teenagers; both had amassed enormous wealth; both were eccentric; both staged numerous comebacks to revive their foundering careers; and both battled drug addictions that contributed to their early deaths.

Certainly, there were just as many differences in the two pop icons as similarities, but the course each followed through life was the same. The rise to greatness and the long fall were tragic, in the true, dramatic sense of the word.

How different it might have been if both had drifted into old age. But their passing, so early and shocking, endowed their lives with amplified significance, and assured them of celebrity for many generations to come.

JAKO VS ELVIS : 6/30/2009
Jako was no elvis,,elvis did not play with little boys private parts, nor did he die broke from paying to settle lawsuits for doing it

jackass vs elvis : 6/30/2009
Elvis was not a bizarre sicko whose performances included doing crotch grabs in front of thousands of children at a time, so there is no comparison beyond the prescription drug addiction and the enablers who overlooked that for whatever reasons. Elvis believed in God, loved and respected his parents, his daughter, his wife, and those close to him. Jackass only really loved himself and used everyone else. Big difference. You want to compare jackass to someone, try Anna Nichole. I am really, really sick of all the tv and media coverage. Trust me, there ARE more important people in this world and more important events.

MJ was not convicted. The evidence was sketchy and there was no proof. Elvis transformed American music. So did MJ, So did Buddy Holly and Jimi Hendrix. All died untimely deaths. And with MJ's estate being worth 236 million net, I don't think that qualifies as broke. How about getting facts, and then pontificating ad nauseum?
