Trinity High School linebacker Andrew Sweat has been selected to play in the inaugural ESPN All-American Game, to be played Jan. 5, 2008 at Disney World in Orlando, Fla. The game features 80 of the most highly recruited football players in the country.

Sweat, who will be a senior this fall, recently announced his commitment to play at Ohio State, one of more than 60 universities to offer a scholarship.

The complete roster for the ESPN game will be announced in Friday's USA Today and on ESPN.com.

"I was invited three weeks ago by the ESPN people," Sweat said Tuesday.

According to the ESPN 150, Sweat is the nation's No. 11 college football recruit and the highest-rated linebacker in high school football. He finished his junior year at Trinity with more than 160 tackles, three interceptions and he was named to Class AAA All-State first-team.

Sweat said several reasons factored into accepting the invitation for the ESPN showcase, which will be played the same day as the Army All-American Game. Current Notre Dame and former Washington High School standout Travis Thomas played in the Army game following the 2002 season.

There were the obvious reasons: Sweat and his family get to spend a week around Disney World and the game will be coached by former NFL greats, who have yet to be announced.

Plus, unlike the Army game, those who chose to play for ESPN will get a week's worth of national exposure.

"All our practices will be on ESPN2 and the game will be televised on ABC," Sweat said. "It's kind of like how the Senior Bowl is for college players. It's going to be awesome.

"Even if I get picked for the Army game, I'll probably play in this game."

Sweat faces a more difficult decision in the near future.

Ohio State would like Sweat, a honor roll student with a 3.9 GPA, to finish his high school requirements early and enroll for the second semester.

"I'm thinking about that. I haven't sat down and discussed it with Coach (Ed) Dalton yet," Sweat said. "Ohio State would like me to graduate early. I'd have to go to summer school. We'll see."
