WAYNESBURG - A West Virginia man who robbed two Greene County convenience stores and attempted to rob a third in late 2004 pleaded guilty Tuesday and was sentenced to 4 to 10 years in prison.

Jerrod Adam Schreffler, 27, appearing before Judge H. Terry Grimes, pleaded guilty to robbing the 9 to 9 Convenience Store in Dilliner on Dec. 27, 2004, and the Grocery Bag store in Greensboro on Dec. 29, 2004.

Schreffler, now in Tygart Valley Regional Jail in Bealington, W.Va., also pleaded guilty to the attempted robbery Christmas Day 2004 of Pecjak's Sunoco Station in Waynesburg.

The attempted robbery at Pecjak's was thwarted when the clerk told Schreffler he would have to purchase something for her to open the register, police said. Schreffler left without getting any money.

The clerk at Pecjak's told police Schreffler was wearing a dark hooded jacket, a camouflage mask and blue gloves and was brandishing a large butcher knife.

A similar description was given for the man who robbed the 9 to 9 and the Grocery Bag. Schreffler made off with $170 from the store in Dilliner and $137 from the Greensboro store, according to police.

State police were led to Schreffler after police in West Virginia arrested him for five similar robberies that occurred the last two weeks of 2004 in Monongalia County, W.Va.

In most of the robberies, Schreffler wore a camouflage mask and blue gloves and brandished a large butcher knife. Tire impressions taken from the snow near the Dilliner store also seemed to match Schreffler's vehicle, which witnesses saw at some of the robberies.

Schreffler pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts each of robbery, theft and simple assault and one count each of criminal attempt to commit theft and criminal attempt to commit robbery.

He earlier confessed to robberies in West Virginia, including at the High Life Lounge in Westover, two Dairy Marts, Bell's Market in Blacksville and Charlette's Gift Variety Bar in Blacksville.

In February 2005, Schreffler began serving a 5- to 21-year sentence in West Virginia, though his minimum sentence could be reduced for good behavior.

His Greene County sentence will run concurrently with the West Virginia sentence. In Pennsylvania, he also must serve at least his full minimum sentence.
