Seminar to address leases for oil, natural gas deposits

This article has been read 676 times.

A free seminar for landowners on oil and natural gas leasing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. July 10 at Harvey's Grange Hall near Graysville.

This informational meeting will be presented by Harvey's Grange and the Penn State Cooperative Extension of Greene County.

The seminar may help landowners who have received letters or telephone calls from oil and gas leasing companies and have questions about whether they should lease or what might be a fair oil and gas lease contract for their property.

High energy prices have made formerly expensive oil and gas drilling more appealing, and drilling companies have been out making contact with area property owners.

Drilling companies also have begun to explore the Marcellus Shale formation, which is projected to hold a large supply of natural gas.

Prior to drilling, a drilling company must obtain a lease from the landowner and negotiate the rights to the oil and gas that might lie deep below the surface.

During the seminar, landowners will speak of their experiences with leases, and an attorney experienced in oil and gas leasing will provide information on leasing contracts.

The program at Harvey's Grange will be a slightly abbreviated version of a gas leasing program scheduled to be held by Penn State July 21 at the Carmichaels High School auditorium.

Registration for the seminar at Harvey's Grange is free, but room is limited.
